Gold Lyrics
You gotta know, I'm feeling love
Made of gold, I never loved a
Another one, another you
It's gotta be love I said it
You gotta know, I'm feeling love
You gotta know, I'm feeling love
You gotta know, I'm feeling love
Made of gold, I never loved a
Another one, another you
It's gotta be love I said it
I might as well be in a garden
I said, ah a smell in the air is a dripping rose (you could be the one for me)
Another soul to meet my void then
Of anything bare that's made of gold
A physical kiss is nothing without it
And you close your eyes to see what it's done
The body that lies is built up on looking
'Cause all that remains before it's begun
You gotta know, I'm feeling love
Made of gold, I never loved a
Another one, another you
It's gotta be love, I said it
You gotta know, I'm feeling love
Made of gold, I never loved a
Another one, another you
It's gotta be love, I said it
A heart will swell before it's hardened
With the flick of the hair, it can make you old
Another hole to dig my soul in
I'll leave anything bare that keeps me soul
A physical kiss is nothing without it
And you close your eyes to see what it's done
The body that lies is built up on looking
'Cause all that remains before it's begun
You gotta know, I'm feeling love
Made of gold, I never loved a
Another one, another you

Incredible... did none of you guys actually listen to the song, only read the above (incorrect) lyrics?
It IS a love song. Chet Faker confirmed this himself in an interview with Song Exploder. He said he wanted to write a song about the kind of love one only experiences, if they're lucky, once, or twice in their lifetime.
The lyrics should state: Made of gold, I never loved a Another one, another you
Not: Made of gold, I never loved her Another one, another you
There’s an episode of Song Exploder, a really good podcast, in which Nick talks explicitly about the making of this song and the lyrics, which are indeed about good old fashioned monogamous love. There’s a comment above that says they feel this song and its accompanying video are “too sexy” to be about the kind of love he describes in the podcast, and I can see why someone might feel that way, but after having been married for twelve years and settling into contented routine over nonstop raw passion, I can safely say there are plenty of those sexy feelings all the time! They just manifest differently: when you’re young you think about physical sex a lot and how that expresses your passions, but as you get older the two of you find outlets for that in the simplest and seemingly most innocent of actions. That’s why “a physical kiss is nothing without it”; without love physical affection is almost meaningless once you’ve found that soul to fill the void. It’s nice, but real love is nicer, and it’s honestly kind of hard to describe in tangible ways, which is why “you close your eyes to see what it’s done”—that’s really the only way to understand it. I think some of the writing in this song is a little juvenile to be honest, but the sentiment described is so rarely referenced in pop music anymore that it really makes for a refreshing change. Also the beat THUMPS.
@jugularnotch You absolutely nailed the interpretation I believe. Being married for 16 years the things you described perfectly explained the feelings of real love. Thank you.

I would like to know if people agree with that, or please point out what this song is about, because it's really a nice song, who keep some tought's on my head about this aspect of everyone (but not all) lifes.

-He's garden could be his paradise, the dripping rose, a metaphor to a small thing being take too big than it really is and the parentheses part, his tiredness of finding many girls who are not 'the one' to be for life
Another soul to meet my void then Of anything bare that's made of gold
-He's want another person to fill his empty and understand his tought's, with more than simple material things and superficial stuffs
A physical kiss is nothing without it And you close your eyes to see what it's done
-A kiss without love it's like nothing -He's try to figure it out, how would be like having it
The body that lies is built up on looking 'Cause all that remains before it's begun
-The lie, is like a picture with photoshop, who don't show's the truth, or a person, who act different just be accept, and not like he want to, so his inner self, is a truth, but that person preffers to live in a lie, but still with all that, his true inner shows up at all.
A heart will swell before it's hardened With the flick of the hair, it can make you old
-Before someone become calloused, it's must suffer a lot of pain to become like this, and with a simple past of time, a person can show how much it's gotta changed and become more mature.
Another hole to dig my soul in I'll leave anything bare that keeps me soul
-Another weakness to his feel, or someone exploits, so his preffer to avoid feelings or stuffs to be used agains him 'like love someone'
Tricky song... I tend to think that this is a "call out" to a woman who he met in the past; but the memories of her still haunts him... It seems that he actually tried to move on and forget all about her... But the attempt was precarious... In vain, as he keeps finding - or searching for - traces of her in other women...
But oh, that void is impossible to fill...
My two cents:
He's singing about the image of girl that he's created in his mind. "Made of gold" an idealised, valuable and over-the-top image of who she is, but he "never loved her", not the real her, he didn't even know the real her.
"Another one" - He's done this before, he's met someone and built them into gold in his mind more times than he can remember. "Another you" could be a Buddhist reference to us all being manifestations of the same thing - consciousness, and we are ultimately all the same thing just experiencing life through different filters and memories.
When you meet someone new, as I just have, there is a sense that you are entering the void when you get intimate with them, stepping into the blackness that comes when all thought and clutter is put aside and you simply exist in a state of being with them.
Your Soul is presented "bare", and he's aware that he's digging a hole for his soul everytime he clings on to all the golden images and leaves the real her behind.
I truly think it's almost about running through partners. 'Another one, Another you' I also think I've felt this way never being able to find the one but rather going through different lovers to find the one but to no prevail. Like when he says 'Another soul to meet my void' that's a big sign of what he is trying to say. that's just my opinion.
For me this is not a love song. It is about a guy who tells the girls he's with that he's in love with them and all the cheesy stuff. But the truth is that he never loved them. He probably tries to compensate something. He says to them: "You gotta know, I'm feeling love Made of gold", "smell in the air is a dripping rose (you could be the one for me"
but thinks:'I never loved her'
Than again to the girls: "It's gotta be love I said it" Probably there was one time than he was really in love but something happened and now he is like: 'Another one, another you.'
Look at the hot girls in the music video. Now he can have them all. It just seems to me that the whole music and video is just too "sexy" to be just about this cliché type of love. Just read the line: "Another hole to dig my soul in" - i mean, sure his "soul" or "A heart will swell before it's hardened"
But I think he's not really happy with this state: "Another soul to meet my void then" - he does not think that the girls can fill his void they just meet the void until they leave. But he knows about this empty state of himself.
" i ll never love another one another you , its gotta be love i said it " You need to get the lyrics correct.
My first take on this was that he refers to 'love made of gold' as a highly valued, precious but shallow kind of affection he holds for someone that had some sort of impact him in the past, whom he still is haunted by in his memories: 'Another one, another you'. He feels unable to reach a higher spiritual connection with anyone, past ('Never loved her') or present ('Another soul to meet my void'). The next lines however don't really make sense by this theory, so I'll just leave it at that.
[Edit: IcoI]
People, this is not complicated. The song is clearly about dating and confusing lust for love. Gold - idolized female Feeling love - horny, looking to fall in love Never loved her - it was all in his head Another one - on to the next Another you - same mistake It's gotta be love - convincing himself, history repeats Then the verses are basically just an expansion on the same thing. Garden verse metaphorically compares the initial first glance, lustful desire, to the garden of Eden. When Eve was made for Adam, and they were perfect. "Body that lies is built up on looking" means your lustful desires will cloud your judgement. And that whole verse is about sex without true love. And again, the final verse is about dating and lust, and never finding true love.
