Let It Die Lyrics

I cut you into pieces
Searching for your imperfections
I had plans to make you whole
But all my threads couldn't stop the bleeding
There's nothing left, but I'm not leaving
When all I know is you

I've been looking for a way
To bring you back to life
And if I could find a way,
Then I would bring you back tonight
I'd make you look, I'd make you lie
I'd take the coldness from your eyes
But you told me, if you love me
Let it die

Your eyes stare right through me
Ignoring my failed attempts to
Breathe back life into your veins
But I can't start your cold heart beating
You're so far gone, but I'm not leaving
When all I know is you

I've been looking for a way
To bring you back to life
And if I could find a way,
I would bring you back tonight
I'd make you look, I'd make you lie
I'd take the coldness from your eyes
But you told me, if you love me
Let it die

And you left me more dead
Than you'll ever know
When you left me alone

I've been looking for a way
To bring you back to life
And if I could find a way,
I would bring you back tonight
I'd make you look, I'd make you lie
I'd take the coldness from your eyes
But you told me, if you love me
Let it die

Let it die
Let it die
Let it die

I believe He is real... But all these people, they have so many facts; they made me see reality. Reality- What a cold, dark, lonely place it is. He died. That day, my life changed forever. I wanted to kill them. I wanted to get revenge; to bring Him back, I suppose. I searched for His imperfections, never to find the cure for them. There wasn't enough science. Never enough facts to bring Him back to me. I was so hateful; at times, I still am. Hating them all. Everything, everyone, it was all worthless. All of it was dead. Then... He told me, Let it die.

Reality- How diluted it truly was. In the midst of death- There it is.

In my opinion this is a song about lost love. He had something wonderful and failed to see it and now that he has lost her. He regrets it and will do anything to get her back but it sounds like no matter what he does and no matter how much he loves her she'll never love him again.

@victor1123 I got that same vibe when i listen to this song. Or if you took it literally, it could have been that person1 got sick then died. Then person2 could have been trying to come up with ways to try to bring them back either from the sickness or death. Maybe they couldn't face reality and wanted to belive that person1 was still alive. But there was this 1/100% part of person2's brain that thought that it was not possible. Then again that's just my two sense

@victor1123 that is what I think to

I hurt her. I planned to heal her lifetime of scars. To excise the dead and make whole what was broken. But I caused her to doubt herself. Because of me she saw herself the way I saw others. I gave everything I had to try and stem the hemorrhagic flood of doubts and insecurities that plagued her. But the stitches burst, tearing still greater wounds into her heart. Looking me in the eye, she told me to let her go. I tried, but the only thing in my life worth having was her. I failed. I kept bringing her back. Because of me she looked and saw. I made her overlook her doubts and insecurities. Time and again, I breathed life into her, into us. It always ended the same. "Let it die" The woman I loved died, day by day, breath by breath. She grew colder. Her heart hardened, froze against me. She looked through me to those she had loved and lost. "If you love me, let it die" "If I could find a way, I'd bring you back tonight. I'd make you look, I'd make you lie. I'd take the coldness from your eyes. But you told me, 'If you love me, let it die!'" But I can't start her frozen heart. And now, she's left me more dead than she'll ever know, more dead than she'll ever see, ever understand. I can't return life from death. And now I'm the one dying. I can't ignore my failures. I can't forget the love, the life. I can't forget the loss, the pain. I die day by day, breath by breath. Now my heart is cold. Love is dead. Now I tell my future "If you love me, let it die."

My Opinion

I think it means that he is “cutting her into pieces” to search for imperfections because he wants to find one. He doesn’t want her to be perfect becuase he feels inferior to her. He wants to make her “whole” in his sense to make himself feel better about himself. She was fine the whole time but he was distraught. He wants to make her lie and take “coldness” from her eyes to make himself feel he is on the same level as her.

I don't believe this song is about death, I believe it uses death as a metaphor. I think this song is about loving some who is an addict, and they feel the person is already dead, and they wish they could bring them back

"I cut you into pieces Searching for your imperfections I had plans to make you whole"

  • in this part, I think he meant he tore the person down to try to get them to see who they are, and that he hurt them in the process when all he was doing was trying to help.

"But all my threads couldn't stop the bleeding There's nothing left, but I'm not leaving When all I know is you"

  • When a loved one, or a lover is an addict the entire world tells us to leave them. They say "they're not going to change, you have to leave them and move on." and in this line he's saying that he can't because that person is all he knows.

"I've been looking for a way To bring you back to life And if I could find a way, Then I would bring you back tonight"

  • in this line he is using death as a metaphor as he feels the person is no longer with him.

"I'd make you look, I'd make you lie I'd take the coldness from your eyes But you told me, if you love me Let it die"

  • in this part he's creating imagery of reanimating someone from the dead. He'd make them see what he did for them, he would make them lie down to not over exert themselves, he would provide warmth for them to get rid of the coldness. Also, I think he's using this as metaphor for addiction also. Like he tried to get the addict to look and see what they've become, and like he's made the addict lie to their loved ones to maintain the image of everything being ok, so that no one intervenes.

"Your eyes stare right through me Ignoring my failed attempts to Breathe back life into your veins But I can't start your cold heart beating You're so far gone, but I'm not leaving When all I know is you"

-he's talking about how the person is so far gone, they just stare past him and ignore his attempts to help, yet he refuses to leave them.

"And you left me more dead Than you'll ever know When you left me alone"

-while the addict still alive, he feels abandoned. As the person is not really there.

"But you told me, if you love me Let it die"

  • The sometimes inevitable end of being in love with an addict is when the addict chooses the drug over you, and no longer wants to hear your plights for change. So, they ask to just let them go, and forget about them. In this instance, I believe this is what "Let it die" means. I think it means "let this love die."
