Dark Places Lyrics
If I thought it would help I would drive this car into the sea.
If the fire and the smoke and explosions could speak for me.
And If the words that I used to try to explain how something inside of me
started to break.
Ah, but one by one my words just got in the way.
How many nights did I crash against the waves with my head going under?
How many days did I spend trying to see it your way?
If you try you'd remember.
I changed and changed and kept on saying,
"One of these days something inside's gonna break."
And we won't get it back now, baby.
(Something's gonna break.)
And if I thought it would help I would carve your name into my heart.
Oh, and if I thought it would help I would carve your name into my heart.
And all of the things that I tried to explain, how something inside of me
started to break.
We were living proof.
One by one we drifted away.
One by one we drifted away.
And time after time there were things that would scare me to tears.
While you called me haunted.
I paced around the bed where you laid.
One of these days baby, something...
(Something's gonna break.)
And if I thought it would help I would carve your name into my heart.
Oh, and if I thought it would help I would carve your name into my heart.
And all of the things that I tried to explain, how something inside of me
started to break.
We were living proof.
One by one we drifted away, hey, yeah.
Drifted away... hey, yeah.
One by one and day by day.
I became the dark in the places where you live.
And if I thought it would help I would carve your name into my heart.
Oh, and if I thought it would help I would carve your name into my heart.
And all of the things that I tried to explain, how something inside of me
started to break.

Just wanted to make a quick note on the lyrics. In the album booklet the line goes "I changed a change and kept on saying."
To me, it sounds like the sung words are "I changed and changed." so I left that as-is.
"If I thought it would help, I would drive this car into the sea" Brian said in an interview that people were asking him if he really crashed a car, saying that would be stupid and he didn't. But the fact his he revealed he sold his muscle car, he was famous for, for a more regular and standard car. This line might be a reference to it.
Best song off "Get Hurt" by far. I liked the album more than most, and I even I have to admit it the album was a bit of a letdown. But if they decide to never return from their indefinite hiatus, this song definitely serves as an incredible swan song.
A great song. I'm my opinion one of his best. A song simply about a man changing and trying to be relevant to his wife or girlfriend. In the end, he wasn't.
