I'm not the one you've read about
I'm not your sanctuary seat
I'm not the one they've told you about
I've never claimed to be of your belief
Yet the claims keep coming
The elaborate stories
When you dig up dirt it's your hands to be cleaned
And you are filthy from the grave you dig
I am a calloused hand from gripping the rock
I am short a feathered wing for the flock
But I'm not weathered from your weightless voices bearing witness
I am not a hallow sound or a glorifying light of deeds
And I am not a conscience found reciting lines down on my knees
And there's no mistaking all of you who fake it
When you dig up dirt it's your hands to be cleaned
And you are filthy from the grave you dig
I am a calloused hand from gripping the rock
I am short a feathered wing for the flock
But I'm not weathered from your weightless voices bearing witness
I am a calloused hand from gripping the rock
I am short a feathered wing for the flock
But I'm not weathered from your weightless voices bearing witness, your weightless voices bearing witness
Can we not [7x]
Divide?
I am not a barricade
I'm just a different way to think
So make no mistake
I'm not your profane
I am a calloused hand from gripping the rock
I am short a feathered wing for the flock
But I'm not weathered from your weightless voices bearing witness
I am a calloused hand from gripping the rock
I am short a feathered wing for the flock

I love WovenWar, but this song jumps out every time I hear it. The lyrics are absolutely astounding.
I think this song speaks from the perspective of a Christian, especially a public figure.. a musician, who is persecuted by other.. Christians.
"I'm not the one you've read about I'm not your sanctuary seat I'm not the one they've told you about I've never claimed to be of your belief" and "Yet the claims keep coming The elaborate stories"
The musician that ends up being misrepresented, like in a news article. A lot of Christians in media are under immense pressure from their fans and communities to live these perfect lives. Sometimes they do things that might appear questionable and they get a lot of heat for it.
"When you dig up dirt it's your hands to be cleaned And you are filthy from the grave you dig" and "And there's no mistaking all of you who fake it"
These persecutors are sinning and "dirtying" themselves by persecuting this person and bringing up all the bad things they've done when they are in no position to do so. Hypocrites. The Bible is clear about how things should be handled when you somehow come to knowledge that a brother or sister is doing bad things.
"I am not a hallow sound or a glorifying light of deeds And I am not a conscience found reciting lines down on my knees"
They're saying, "I'm just like you, a human. I'm not just this conscience that is perfectly holy and praying all the time. I fall, just as you do."
"I am a calloused hand from gripping the rock"
This is a reference to the scene in the Bible where Jesus said to a woman's persecutors: "He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her." This person is holding on to that rock, never casting it.
I speak from experience when I say "church" people can be really stupid and do nasty things. This song is for them.
So to solidify all this, I found this fitting excerpt from an article about persecution:
"Paul angrily stated in I Corinthian 6:5-6, “I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!”
By doing this in full view of non-believers, we shame the reputation of Christ. We are redeemed, but many times we don’t live like the redeemed and we don’t reflect the Redeemer.
Gandhi once said that “I love your Christ…it is your Christians that I don’t like very much.” This is because he saw the two-faced nature of many believers."
A lot of people don't realize, but Shane Blay, the singer, is an atheist. This song, from what I gather, is about people not knowing that and judging him for his actions being all like "Why would you say something like that? Very un-Christlike!" It also points out the hypocrisy of people digging up dirt on someone when they are supposed to be unjudgemental and righteous according to their faith
