Champions Of Red Wine Lyrics

We are champions of red wine, poured all over
It's what we're known for, the fine art of crossed lines
Crossed for old times, like starting over

Open up the headlamps, be poised to look for
You're coming over, you've done your research
It has the force of water, and we've got a lot here

The steps I take, back to you
The steps I take, back to you

I think we could save lives, if we don't spend them
Way undercover, I am not your love song
Love song gone wrong, I'm coming over

The steps I take, back to you
The steps I take, back to you

We are champions of red wine, poured all over
And we're coming over, we're coming over
We're coming over, we're coming over

This quote came from frontman Carl Newman.“A lot of ‘Champions of Red Wine’ is about personal experiences I’ve had with just really dysfunctional relationships, like you stay with a person — or keep hooking up with a person — only because it’s simple and it’s easy,” Newman says. “But it’s completely wrong. There’s anger there. Like, ‘A love song is beautiful, and you are not.’”

Is anyone certain the lyric is "We're poured all over" and not "We pour it all over"? The latter seems to make more sense, but I don't think TNP ever worried too much about lyrics making complete sense.

@bravely I'm not yet sure, but "being poured all over" is a valid expression, but maybe not a common one. I'm so tired while typing this, but I think the idea is that you feel like too little butter, thinly applied to bread. I remember reading a Bible Verse about being poured all over, maybe from the book of Job?

OK, the Bible Verse that I referenced is not necessarily about "being poured all over." I do, however, know that the verse was something like "My life is poured out like water" or "My health is poured out like water on a desert." So it does seem like it would be in the book of Job.
