Lost Stars

This song invokes constellations, astrological signs (Aries and Leo), a story between a sheep and lion representing two lovers. Their love seemed ideal, as compatible together as Aries and Leo in horoscopes, but this song is more about separation of two lovers when they were young ("I thought I heard you out there crying"). The singer now wonders if there can be reconciliation ("Just the same").

No matter the differences between two people, can it ever be that they can still love each other? Or as referenced from the Bible, that a lion lie down with a lamb? ("Lion kiss a deer")

Young love can have partners that are selfish, too idealistic, and believing in fate without compromising. Sometimes the initial attraction doesn't lead to much else. (Or still, when compromising partners want too different things to be together).

When he is older, the singer realizes that the relationship he had before was great, and that a truly ideal lover is rare to find. If fate comes once in a million years, the lambs who are "searching for meaning" are wasting their youth trying to find it. They are running from the differences (running from lions or the "hunting season") when they should actually make compromises.

This is the common mistake that people make, and become like lost stars. I like to think that only a few lucky stars in the sky belong in a constellation, who have met fate, and that the numerous rest of us are just shining.

And does it really matter? You can barely tell apart a constellation from the rest of the stars. The lesson is that there is happiness in love even when it's not perfect.

the tune of the song along w/ its lyrics really make it sound that the person is lost and doesn't know his real purpose in life. The person or both of them are (quite) troubled yet they want to love each other purely & just goes along w/ it without thinking of the consequences. Whatever the song means, I find it relatable for many people which is why this song is a hit. And by the why, Adam Levine is extremely hot ❤️❤️❤️

this is actually one of my favorite songs because I think it has such a deep meaning. my interpretation of this song, is that its about a man who's wandered off his path in life. he's getting caught up in the fact that he hasn't accomplished the goals that he's been reaching for, and the illusion that they could still happen. he's coming to the realization that sometimes, things that you plan for just fall through or are a "one night stand". he continues to question if his life had any meaning at all, and if he's accomplished anything or made anything of himself. in the song (at least to me anyways) Adam compares himself to a lamb by saying "its hunting season and this lamb is on the run, searching for meaning" to me, the lamb represents the man, and hunting season is the end of his life drawing near. the man is running, trying desperately to find the meaning of his life. through the second verse after the first chorus, the man is a little more optimistic. he's hopeful that maybe there's more for him in life than he imagined for himself. he's saying that anything is possible in the end "don't you dare let our best memories bring you sorrow, yesterday I saw a lion kiss a dear" the last thing I noticed about this song, but i'm not sure if it has anything to do with the meaning, is that the song starts out nice and slow, but king of sad. the first chorus line is quieter, but the song starts to get louder as it progresses into the next chorus line. by the last chorus line, the singer sounds very urgent, and finally Identifies himself as being "the lamb" :)

Out of all the songs on the Begin Again soundtrack, this one is my favourite.
