Rent I Pay Lyrics
I've been losing sleep
Just noddin' sleep
That I wish that I knowed
I've lost all my tapes
Black mask and piece
Just for asking piece
That I ought to be owed
That's the rent I pay
Just like my brother would say it
Out amongst the stars and the stones
Every kind of fortune gets sold
Every kind of line is gonna come back to me just as i call
That's the rent I pay
Like my brother say it
That's the rent I pay
Rent I pay
Like brother say it
That's the rent I pay
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
I've been losing sleep
And I'm noddin' sleep
That I wish that I knowed
I've lost all my tapes
Black mask and piece
Just for asking piece
That I ought to be owed
That's the rent I pay
Like my brother say it
That's the rent I pay
Oh, rent I pay
Like her brother say it
That's the rent I pay
Everybody knows just where you been goin'
Everybody knows the faces you been showin'
And if that's your answer
No, I ain't your dancer
And if that's your answer
No, I ain't your dancer
Just noddin' sleep
That I wish that I knowed
Black mask and piece
Just for asking piece
That I ought to be owed
Just like my brother would say it
Every kind of fortune gets sold
Every kind of line is gonna come back to me just as i call
Like my brother say it
That's the rent I pay
Like brother say it
That's the rent I pay
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
Ooo la
And I'm noddin' sleep
That I wish that I knowed
Black mask and piece
Just for asking piece
That I ought to be owed
Like my brother say it
That's the rent I pay
Like her brother say it
That's the rent I pay
Everybody knows the faces you been showin'
And if that's your answer
No, I ain't your dancer
And if that's your answer
No, I ain't your dancer

Not my fave od the album, but acoustic... Oh, man... I love it!
Seems to be about the life of being in a band. He's saying that all the shit that happens to him, like losing tapes, everybody knowing where you've been, is "the rent" he's paying in order to live his dream. It's an honest, positive outlook on the life of a musician, saying "sometimes it sucks but it's worth it in the end".
