Bridges Lyrics

Gave you a minute
When you needed an hour
Just to push it aside
Instead of leaving it behind you

If any word that I said
Could have made you forget
I'd have given you them all
But it was all in your head

Now we're burning all the bridges now
Watching it go up in flames
No way to build it up again

Now we're burning all the bridges now
Cause it was sink or swim and I went down, down, down

And we're burning all the bridges
Burning all the bridges now
And we're burning all the bridges
Burning all the bridges now

If I didn't kill it
Would you still say you needed me?
Guess I walked right into it
Guess I made it too easy

If any word that you said could have made me forget
Would I get up off the floor
Cause this is all in my head

Now we're burning all the bridges now
Watching it go up in flames
No way to build it up again

And we're burning all the bridges
Burning all the bridges now
And we're burning all the bridges
Burning all the bridges now

Can we forget about it?
Can we forget?
Can we forget about it?
Can we forget?

Burning all the bridges
Burning all the bridges now
And we're burning all the bridges
Burning all the bridges now

When you compare the NZ video with the lyrics you come out with what the song means. Basically, a girl and a boy fall in love. They rush into it. Hence "I gave you a minute, when you needed an hour" They are on a adventurous relationship. In which they are deeply in love. "I would've given you them all" The boy becomes abusive. Domestic violence occurs. "If i didn't hit it" "burning bridges" and many more lyrics. In the video he tried killing her with a pillow after a simply and playful pillow fight. However, he is afraid of simply touching her due to his respect for her. He then looks at her and realizes it was a mistake and that he loves her. Hence "Can we forget about it" She can't exactly forgive him though. However she does accept it. Later on they are found joking around with vampire teeth when he pushes her down to the floor. Once again being a little aggressive. He puts both of his arms around her and leans in to kiss her. She pushes him off and runs away. He regrets it because he believes he rushed into it. "I gave you a minute, when you needed an hour" Perhaps the girl was in a abusive relationship or such before due to her lack of trust. They had "burned down the bridges"

Song Comparison

In addition to what i said. The girl believes she was letting him in too easy. "Would you still say you needed me Guess I walked right into it Guess I made it too easy If any word that you said Could have made me forget"

The music video can help explain were the inspiration for this song came: getting friend-zoned and unrequited love in general which leads to the end of a relationship (burning that bridge).

I love this song because I think the lyrics are more profound then they are literal. I am "happily" married but can still relate to disfunctional relationship themes found in this song like:

Not being patient, pushing my feelings aside when I should have spoken up (chose to push it aside), and feeling helpless when you know that it doesn't matter what you say because the other person has to work it out for them self in their head.

If you want to think that "If I didn't hit it" is referring to domestic violence, emotional/physical abuse...yeah sure, whatever. I think you can adapt the lyrics many ways.

To me I see her hitting a detonate button, leading to the explosives on the bridge. I relate this to myself by saying "If I didn't react rashly, was more mature about 'it', would you still act the same?"

Basically, you should relate this song to your own life. Also I love how they artistically blend a passionate melancholy theme with a positive and energetic beat. Sick jam.
