Toussaint Loverture was a leader of the Haití Revolution. He directed a slave revolution that concluyed with the abolition of slavery in the island. He later became the Governor of the island.

The title and lyrics of the song are wrong, it's Toussaint L'Ouverture -notice the missing "u" in L'Ouverture, it wouldn't sound the same without it. The lyrics can be fixed but it seems the title will have to stay as it is.
