What Insomnium wrote in their booklet : I think it was back in the spring of 2013, when Century Media threw out an idea of recording a new single, which wold be released beforehand the actual album. We already had couple of songs pretty much finished but I still tried to come up with another catchy song for this purpose. This song became later While We Sleep. Even though all the people in the band liked it, Ephemeral pulled the longer straw and became the number one single choice. In the hindsight, this was absolutely the right choice, as this song needed a bit more attention and caring to actually fly on its own. The addition of clean vocals was a bit last minute thing; I've had this idea for long time but actually had already forgot about it in amidst of all the hurry and rush. I only remembered this couple of nights before and decided to give it a go. All vocal harmonies were thrown in spontaneously, and surprisingly, it sounds more coherent and thought of than it actually is. You just need to go with the flow sometimes. Lyrics deal about forgetting to live in this moment when you're too much concentrated on the future. It's also about realizing that this is it and there's no going back. There's no point of rushing through your life ; It's important to slow down. V. Friman
The song stands for some kind of loss. He lost his love. It seems that it is about a strong love, something that if you're touched then you are screwed if you screw things up. And now he wants to get back to the old days but it seems that he cannot go back that easy because the distance between these 2 persons got higher and redemption gets into place but they don't want to get to this. And they both know that they are doing something wrong by being apart. Now there is that part in the video where that passionate girl gets in, that is a message of passion, of true love and it means that this is essential in life, to love the one that you know you have to love. And he tells her to slow down so he can get back to her because he realizes that he needs her in her life and vice-versa. I hope I got it good.

this song takes me in another world. just listen to it. you'll feel like you are dreaming. the melody of this song won't get out of your head anyway. lyrically this song creates a great impression in mind. at the first part you'll feel like everything has ended. but at the last part,a ray of hope will appear. just an awesome song <3

This song has a special place in my heart that will always be a reminder of how the past can bring you down, and that you have to use it as a learning experience. Not dwell in it, and live in regret. Use it as fuel for the future and embrace the days to come.
There's Hope, Just Slow Down
I shall give it a flavour to this song as to where i stand and what i have already dealt with, and how i lost people and still stood though alone and strong. So the song easily deals with life. It has stopped my life for 6:20 mins. And it has shown to me that theres burden thats too heavy i am carrying. And just when the thought of i cant take no more comes another person leaves me ( lost my love, she went away) and theres nothing i can do to turn the time reverse and correct or erase the mistakes and make it perfect. Whats left of me now is a tattered life, desolation depression memories and delebrate ruining of the good days, i live my life now making myself unaware and lost in another world of my mind running away from reality. Thats when this 6mins 20 seconds bring be back to reality in a snap!
