Wonderful Unknown Lyrics
Oh ooh...Let me wear your overcoat, my bones are super chill and all the ponies have gone home
Oh ooh...Walking through Manhattan with the ache from last night's smile still smarting up from my toes
Here we go, dancing on our own, inside this house that we have never known, never known
Here we go, going in alone into the dark and wonderful unknown, let us go, let us go
Oh ooh...We make bread on Sundays and the little ones are climbing up the walls, up the walls
Oh ooh...Nothing lasts forever but the sound of love astounds me every time that it calls
Here we go, dancing on our own, inside this house that we have never known, never known,
Here we go, going in alone into the dark and wonderful unknown, let us go, let us go
In the best way, you'll be the death of me
In the best way, you'll be the death of me
In the best way, you'll be the death of me
In the best way
Oh ooh... Got your father's wristwatch on, the one your mother gave him when they thought the world won't end
Oh ooh...We will be there one day with a smile and nothing more to say goodbye to a friend
Here we go, dancing on our own, inside this house that we have never known, never known
Here we go, going in alone, into the dark and wonderful unknown, let us go let us go
Here we go, dancing on our own, inside this house that we have never known, never known
Here we go, going in alone, into the dark and wonderful unknown
let us go, let us go
In the best way you'll be the death of me
In the best way you'll be the death of me
In the best way you'll be the death of me

Another beautiful song by IM. I believe the back up vocals are from her husband Greg Laswell, which makes the song even better!
The song is basically about life. The phrase "into the dark and wonderful unknown" sums up that we just don't know what is around the corner, but with love in our life we will be ok.
The song also suggests different paths that our life can/may or may not take. We all imagine what the future may bring like "little ones are climbing up the walls" ... "nothing more to say goodbye to a friend"....
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful song.
amazing... the first time i heard this song i couldn't stop crying :(
" Oh, got your father’s wristwatch on, The one your mother gave him when they thought the world won’t end, Oh, we will be there one day with a smile And nothing more to say goodbye to a friend "
absolutely amazing <3 <3 <3
I always thought this was about the beginning of a new marriage. "Inside this house we've never known" - moving into a new house together; "we make bread on sundays and the little ones are climbing up the walls" - the picture of a family life. But the biggest evidence would be in the repititous line "in the best way, you'll be the death of me," or a beautifully rephased "til death do us part."
