Why'd You Bring a Shotgun to the Party Lyrics
Alone, afraid, the kid your mother made
Sitting in your room drooling like a loser with all his doom
You think, then you start to drink
Then you get so paranoid with all the drugs they fill you with (then boom)
Does it make you feel like a man? (boom)
It's not the size we understand (boom)
You think you're gonna get with me
You're never gonna get with me
You're never gonna dance with me
I admit, I feel like you, like shit
But I don't go 'round and take it out on everyone about it
We're all part of the system
You wanna start a war
You think that everyone would miss it
Why'd you bring a shotgun to the party? (x2)
Everybody's got one, there's nothing new about it
Want to make a statement
You should have come without it
You turn the TV on, watch it if you dare
You see a politician and you start to pull your hair
It's a two dimension seat there's really nothing there
You want to tell 'em you think they think they fucking care (and boom)
Do you think they hear you now? (and boom)
Making noises in the crowd
All in the way that use it
You love it so much then why do you abuse it?
Why'd you bring a shotgun to the party? (x2)
Everybody's got one, there's nothing new about it
Want to make a statement?
You should have come without it
We're all part of the system
Load 'em up, shoot 'em down
But you keep fuckin' missing (x2)
Alone, afraid, you want to make 'em pay
That's why you bring a shotgun to a party
Why'd you bring a shotgun to the party?
Everybody's got one, there's nothing new about it
Want to get the girl
Then you should have come without it

This song can have a very political meaning to it. Many people's hatred towards the government due to the neglection they feel. Then putting all their anger and frustration out on everyone. This can refer back to the shooting at the Elementary school and the movie theatre. Taylor's basically saying: "Yeah, you're alone. You're afraid. You feel like people don't understand you, but that doesn't give you the right to take it out on other (innocent) people." This song is badass and it's definitely my favourite on the album.
I think that both of the previous interpretations are neglecting to mention certain lyrics like: "Does it make you feel like a man?" "It's not the size, we understand" "You think you're gonna get with me? Your never gonna get with me! You're Never gonna dance with me!" These lyrics as well as others are referring to a frustrated man who feels like a loser because he's been rejected and made fun of by a girl he was attracted to. She refers to his (small) penis throughout the song saying, "Its not the size, we understand" "all in the way you using" I think this guy is having a mental breakdown because nothing in his life seems to be going right and she keeps berating him. Also, why would he "still keep fucking missing?" Either he's too drunk to aim, or crying (or both) because at this point she's made him look like a fool. He came in with something that typically gives someone complete control over a situation (a gun) and still felt like he wasn't able to do anything in the face of her insults. She takes every one of his problems and makes them feel insignificant saying "you think they fucking care?" "you think they'd fucking listen?" "does it make you feel like a man?" "Do you think they hear you now?"
also, i'd like to add that a stereotype about people who collect guns is that they are compensating for their lack of "manhood" if you know what i mean
@patricko1999 wow man, I really liked you analysis. I wasn't convinced it was only about politics, maybe just a little but looking at it from the perspective of a frustrated man explains a lot. Thank you!

I think this song is about the murder of Dimebag Darrell Abbot of Pantera and Damage Plan. "Alone, afraid, you want to make them pay" could be directed at Nathan Gale when he went to the stage of the Damage Plan concert and avenged Darrell for stealing songs he wrote, I heard may have been the cause for his murder. A concert is a party in some ways, which explains the title of the song.
