Ephemeral Lyrics

A distant vision
in the closest of moments to my being
Standing free of design, an entity of my own
And with eyes opening, it shatters within a breath
But already the thought lost my mind in question
Beyond reason

Say goodbye to the world as we knew it
To the eyes that couldn't see
Now we're dying trying to find out
What this life could mean
So say goodbye to the world as we knew it

The incidental fortunes that are our moments
To feel and see, create and dream
It is our duty to live while we can

Say goodbye to the world as we knew it
To the eyes that couldn't see
Now we're dying trying to find out
What this life could mean
So say goodbye to the world as we knew it

Cover art for Ephemeral lyrics by Intervals

To me this song is about someone who stops believing in a god or a religion while starting to live an independent life, taking responsibility for himself.

"Standing free of design" is nailing this for me: In religion, humans are usually created by an intelligent designer / god. Now, being an "entity of his own", he has to come to terms with his existance without a reason, without a purpose given by religion. This thought is troublesome for the singer: "But already the thought lost my mind in question, beyond reason". The refrain mirrors this premise.

Finally, he comes to terms with the meaning of life, if not given by religion: "To feel and see, create and dream, it is our duty to live while we can". Life is a gift, something beautiful and wonderful, and every life is important. The singer does not need purpose given by religion; he can try to do the best with the time he has, making his own decisions and living to the fullest.
