Primitive Lyrics

When the night is young in the land I'm from
The seasons ghost away
The starts at night obscured by light
Can still lead me though this

Don't know where i want to be
But I'm glad that you're with me
And all i know is it'd be easy to leave

And in my mind i can't see the street
Where you and i will live
You still can't see the stars at night
But were not primitive

Don't know where i want to be
Oh but I'm glad that you're with me
And all i know is it'd be easy to leave

A really beautiful, underrated song on this album.

It's about still having some uncertainty about the future, but taking comfort in the fact that you are at least certain you've found the person you want to spend your future with. And while he's happy that his band is doing well, he's sometimes tempted to give up touring if it meant he could be with that special person more often.

I didn't know this until very recently, but according to a music review, Martin Courtney has been married for the last two years or so. This song must have been especially personal for him.

My Interpretation

I completely agree with what you're saying, I didn't know it was that personal to him, now I do. Thanks haha

Really fantastic song. The chorus is spot on to my feeling right now. Well done whoever wrote this.

For me it is about the future and the unknowing of it. In the moment it is easy to have fun with people in certain places. However, it is easy to just leave in relationships, whether it is friends, family or significant others. Start anew somewhere and go through it again is the easier option. It is the time spent with someone and the problems that you have to overcome that make it difficult and complex. At least that is what I take from it.
