Perfect World Lyrics

Oh London moon
Help me stumble home
Let me lose myself along the way
I've got nothing left
It's kind of wonderful
'Cause there's nothing they can take away ... away
The open doors left me wanting more
Never thought they'd close them all away
The ordinary life they want for you
Is it too much to have to bear?

But it's another way to win a useless fight
You’ve been lying so long don’t know when you’re faking
See the water on the rise
Just another day into a useless night
I've been pushing so hard now my hands are shaking
See the water run and rise

But I've been turned around
I was upside down
I thought love would always find a way
But I know better now
Got it figured out
It's a perfect world all the same
World

But I've been turned around
I was upside down
I thought love would always find a way
But I know better now
Got it figured out
It's a perfect world all the same

World, world, world, world
World, world, world, world

I was hoping for
An easy rambling life
'Till a notion came to my mind
We look for exit signs
But we can't be changed
Into nothing overnight
Though we know it's over
It keeps exploding
Every morning when we rise

A person seems to be a walking home from a night out drinking and begins to think if the life being lead is too much to bear. But then the person leading this life realizes the world is still perfect, although it's not turned out the way they expected. In general it's just a reflection back on how the person sees the life they lead, and what they changed into over the years.

The speaker of the song has realized love and life aren't as ideal as they once thought and that things don't always work out, but even after knowing this, wouldn't change the way the world works. They are at peace with the world and with the way their life has turned out at this point and feel a kind of wonderful relief.

Like the song "Vaporize", the song ends with an intimate honest thought that seems to be spoken directly to the listeners, but I'm not sure how to interpret it:

"We look for exit signs But we can't be changed Into nothing overnight Though we know it's over It keeps exploding Every morning when we rise"

Maybe the "exit signs" we are looking for indicate exits from the "ordinary life" mentioned earlier in the song. However, since we're deeply entrenched in our ordinary lives, it's difficult to just leave that life and "be changed into nothing overnight", to become someone like the speaker with "nothing left" for anyone to take away. As for the "we know it's over", maybe this refers to a love or a dream we once had that is gone now, and we think about them every day ("It keeps exploding / Every morning when we rise").

My interpretation is based on my own experience. The true meaning could be completely different...

As a person who has been struggling with depression, this song really, really stuck a chord with me from the first verse.

I've got nothing left It's kind of wonderful 'Cause there's nothing they can take away… away

I lost everything, I couldn't regain my footing, any fear to initiate finding a way out or looking for help vanished. 'I've got nothing left to lose. It's great because I don't want to have to fight for anything anymore. I give up.'

The rest rung true as well... The way my family saw me spin and want a better life for me but I pushed 'em away by saying whatever I needed to to get tehm to leave me alone and eventually, it stopped. They're always there, but when you're unwilling to help yourself -- while it's unintentional, it's hard to communicate and I spent less time around them.

When I discovered there was more to lose, like treasured friendships... Who weren't going to put up with my behavior and threatened to walk away... I love my friends dearly but I didn't want to be honest with them and they were what I wasn't willing to lose. So I started talking about it and now I'm pulling myself out of it. I went from not caring whether or not I woke up some days to finding out what I really want out of life and pursuing it. When I listen to this song and reflect I'm blown away with emotion. It's a relief to listen to this song. If I had to choose how I feel now, this song pretty much captures it. It's a bittersweet, perfect world.

IF I could speak to these guys, I would have to hug them both for this song.

My Interpretation

In my opinion it is about a lad which have had depression for years. He have lived with the disorder so long that he have no idea of how his life would have been without depression. So he kinda understand that without the depression he would not know how to live his life. For him the perfect life is the one he is living and he has come to piece with it - even with the black dog ruining his days.

My Opinion

1) "Oh London moon Help me stumble home Let me lose myself along the way" -----> Expresses the feeling of wanting the pain to go away or to be "enlighted" 2) "I've got nothing left It's kind of wonderful 'Cause there's nothing they can take away Away" ------> realize the duality of life. If you have something you will lose it. One of the ideas presented in the Tao Te Ching for example. 3) "The open doors Left me wanting more Never thought they'd close them all away" -----> Once you entered the world you thought there would be 10000 of open doors. If one door shuts down another opens. But once you realize that you need nothing to be complete, all the door shut down immeaditly cause you understand that that what you search CANT lie behind those doors. 4) "But it's another way to win a useless fight You've been lying so long from the way that you're faking See the water run and rise Just another day into a useless night I've been pushing so hard that my hands are shaking See the water run and rise" -----> after you realize that you need nothing than even this explanation is pretty useless. So its just another way to win a useless fight (of thoughts?). You explain everything to yourself but you feel deep inside of you that no explanation ever can come close to whats happening. Therefore you FEEL that you lied to yourself but you got so used to it that these feeling is just normal. And even thinking about this is "pushing so hard" that your hands are shaking. 5) "But I've been turned around I was upside down I thought love would always find a way But I know better now Got it figured out It's a perfect world all the same World"

------>Love never finds a way. Love IS the way. I think he refers to the Tao te Ching: the dao (for a lack of a better name they call it dao) is the thing that gives birth to the Mother of 10.000 things. So if the universe is the Mother that gave birth to all the things we witness, the dao gave the possibility for the Mother to give birth. Accepting the dao is accepting that things have ever been they way they are. Its all the same. Its a perfect world.

This song is about a guy that finds the dao and realize that there is no reason to worry, because the dao is perfect. And if the dao is perfect, the world is perfect.

6) "I was hoping for An easy rambling life 'Till an ocean came to my mind We look for exit signs But we can't be changed Into nothing overnight Though we know it's over It keeps exploding Every morning when we rise" ------> He wanted to have an ez life but than life happend and the ocean are the the 10.000 things. Everything we discovered come to his mind.

We are all looking for exit signs. How can we all unlearn what we are learned?

Learning consist of daily accumulating. The way of the dao consist of daily removing. We cant changed into nothing over night, we need to remove it bit by bit. I would call it reverse learning.

But even if we know that its over, we saw maya, we saw the illusion but it keeps exploding every morning when we rise.
