Whenever, Wherever Lyrics
Out of sight the way you come alive when you are all alone
Anywhere you are my love let me comfort you your eyes dripping blue
I'll be the night fly looking for sin you be the bright light drawing me in no room for doubt so just stubbornly keep on but for how long
To be here alone tonight tonight
To be here alone tonight tonight
To be here alone tonight tonight
And I can't say no not until I reap the seeds I've sown not until I take that long walk home and stare you down
Words that appeased you words were always dressed up to please you promising someday whispered to you so desperately all night
Walk out the door get rid of the tells say it's ok but we're kidding ourselves trick me to thinking that you could be all mine
All mine to be here alone tonight to be here alone tonight
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
To be here alone tonight
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
Tonight tonight, tonight tonight, tonight tonight
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
Whenever you want it, wherever you want it
Wherever you want it, whenever you want it
All the time the way you are all alone the way you hold it all I stalled I watched you come down oh lord I tried and it's still not enough

It pretty much sums up the idea of a someone who has just broke up with his date because he has done something unrepairable, but still keeps continuosly being chased by that person. And he doesn't want to give up, but also doesn't want to compromise; still, he is always there for her. When she gets lonely, obviously. She seems out of sight, nowhere to be found, until the moment she feels alone. Then, she seems to care and call him. 'Well', he says, 'I'll be here whenever you want it, wherever you want it'.
I love the part he sings: "Walk out the door get rid of the tells/ say it's ok but we're kidding ourselves/ trick me to thinking that you could be all mine." It's like they're at some kind of party with their mates, and then, they see them holding each other. He wants her to get there and tell everyone it's ok, even though they themselves know it's absolutely not, it's wrong and she is just fooling around with him.
Although, it is still lonely - not to say unfair and one-side'ish - to be always waiting for someone.
She comes alive when she's alone, probably artistic, poetic and a deep thinker. She's very special and he wants to comfort her. Obviously she's sad, probably a victim of depression as obviously he knows she likes to isolate herself but also gets very sad hence her eyes dripping blue. He describes himself as a nightfly looking for sin but always ends up attracted to her bright light instead. He keeps wanting to come back to her, wanting to go back to his special love that he can't seem to let go of like he was describing stubbornly keep on, no room for doubt. But for how long can he keep coming back to what didn't work out before? Then he goes on to say how he can't let go until he's said all the things he needs to say, stare at her and take it all in, he needs closure to move on. But he told her words that they both wanted to hear. That it would last, that maybe it can still work, "promising someday, whispered so desperately" he wants so bad for it to work but sadly it can't and he knows this but still he keeps going back and forth, trying not necessarily to make it work but to always be there for her, "wherever you want it, whenever you want it." And then finally when he sees how much she truly is bearing and the weight of "the way you hold it all" he sees that no matter how hard he tries it will never be enough.
For me this song is about struggles with long distance relationship. It describes all the feelings the one has when his love isn't physically present in his life. It also can be a song that describes the end of such relationship. ' Anywhere you are, my love Let me comfort you ' this describes the devotion that one has to make someone happy. 'No room for doubt, so just stubbornly keep on But for how long?' this describes the feelings between two people which are away from each other but they try to make it work they ' stubbornly keep on ' but they don't know for ' how long ' they can do it. 'Words that appeased you Words were always, dressed up to please you Promising "someday" " they were thinking about future together and making plans but only to make each other happy, inside they knew it wouldnt work out. Because they both know they are " kidding ourselves" "Trick me to thinking, that you could be all mine " he says 'trick me' so he knows it's not possible for her to be all his because of distance. 'All the time, the way you are alone The way you hold it all' he is impressed how she is trying but he 'tried and still it's not enough ' it wasn't enough, probably one side didnt work hard enough for it to work out.
it's funny how i was writing this like month ago while being in relationship and now it's the end and all of this is truth.. especially the last lines.
