Stolen Dance Lyrics

Stolen Dance

Verse 1.
I want you by my side
So that I never feel alone again
They've always been so kind
But now they've brought you away from here
I hope they didn't get your mind
Your heart is too strong anyway
We need to fetch back the time
They have stolen from us

Refrain

And I want you
We can bring it on the floor
You've never danced like this before
(We don't talk about it)
Dancin' on doin' the boogie all night long
Stoned in paradise
Shouldn't talk about it
I want you
We can bring it on the floor
You've never danced like this before
(We don't talk about it)
Dancin' on doin' the boogie all night long
Stoned in paradise
Shouldn't talk about it 2x

VERSE 2.
Coldest winter for me
No sun is shining anymore
The only thing I feel is pain
Caused by absence of you
Suspense is controlling my mind
I cannot find the way out of here
I want you by my side
So that i never feel alone again

REFRAIN 2x
And I want you
We can bring it on the floor
You've never danced like this before
We don't talk about it
Dancin' on doin' the boogie all night long
Stoned in paradise
Shouldn't talk about it
I want you
We can bring it on the floor
You've never danced like this before
(We don't talk about it)
Dancin' on doin' the boogie all night long
Stoned in paradise
Shouldn't talk about it 2x

I may be biased since this situation happened to me, but it seems as if it's about a love that has drifted apart.

I want you by my side So that I never feel alone again (they have been drifting apart and he wants her back by his side bc the loneliness is terrible.) They've always been so kind But now they've brought you away from me (Family or friends have become unforgiving at things he has done or put her through and she is drifting because of the turmoil they put her under bc of being with him) I hope they didn't get your mind Your heart is too strong, anyway (He knows she is a strong individual and her love for him is strong so he is hoping her heart is tough enough to withstand the criticism) We need to fetch back the time They have stolen from us (They have spent more and more time apart because of her friends and family pulling her away)

I want you We can bring it on the floor You've never danced like this before (They get away or remember back to a time where it was just them, no outside influence from anybody else and they danced like they had never danced before and were just completely and entirely happy being just the two of them) We don't talk about it (they don't talk about all the troubles they are having) Dancing on, do the boogie all night long Stoned in paradise (It's so amazing they just feel completely lost and stoned in the paradise they are in when it is just them) Shouldn't talk about it (they shouldn't talk about it .. just be together like this and happy)

Coldest winter for me No sun is shining anymore (the "honeymoon" is over, they are back to reality and she has drifted away completely because of the confusion and pain family and friends put her through) The only thing I feel is pain Caused by absence of you (Obvious .. ) Suspense controlling my mind (Suspense is killing him hoping she will come back because their relationship has been back and forth but they always got back together .. waiting on it to happen again) I cannot find the way out of here (Can't find his way out of the depression without her)

That is just my interpretation but it is exactly what I went through with my ex and he felt the same way.

@wsb88 i think this is very likely, except i think maybe he and she got into drugs together, and fam and friends tore them apart. he hopes they didnt poison her mind against him too much because the thought of her hating him is too much to bear. he wants her by his side, yet he knows its impossible - the situation changed them both dramatically, and they are no longer compatible. ~all in all, i think its simply a song about loss.
cheers, D

All of this can very well be about drug addiction. Now I propose two possible interpretations: First the dark one; The author metaphorically sings about the stuff he craves. HE is stoned and he shouldn't talk about how great it is. He actually succumbed to his addiction and every moment without it he feels cold and alone. "They" are the people who want to help him and take the drugs away from him, but he doesn't care, he found them anyways and enjoys them. So pretty dark all in all. Now for the bit nicer one, he's clean, but his girlfriend has the addiction and when she was away doing drugs, or on a rehab, he was lonely. "They" were first kind, and offered her something to help her a bit, get her going, help her study, but then the addiction got out of hand and "they" have took her away from him. He hopes it didn't cause greater problems, but he thinks her heart is still strong enough. So he knows she's doing the wrong thing, but still, when she's high she dances (or "dances") with him and it's even better than normal. SHE is stoned in paradise, he's happy she's with him at least during that time. So not so dark, but really melancholic.

Song Meaning

Actually, I think it's a bit of both. If it were JUST about his own addiction, then this part in the first verse :

"I hope they didn’t get your mind Your heart is too strong anyway"

wouldn't make sense, since the drugs don't feel and there is little that can be metaphorically called it's heart or mind. On the other hand, if it were JUST about his lover's addiction, this part in the second verse:

"The only thing I feel is pain Caused by absence of you Suspense is controlling my mind"

would make a...

Here's my interpretation: they are both on drugs. When they dance, stoned in paradise, they're getting high together. "They" refers to the drugs, which used to be "kind" to him, in that they made him feel better, but now the drugs are driving them apart, so he feels lonely because they are metaphorically apart because of the drug high. They are also ruining his life, taking away his ability to feel anything but the pains of withdrawal.

THE SONG THAT TOOK OFF FOR YOU WAS “STOLEN DANCE”, WHICH WAS BIG IN EUROPE AND IS NOW MAKING ITS WAY TO THE UK. WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND IT?

The song is simply the expression about a feeling – the feeling when you’re missing somebody, missing a person you love, a person you want to spend time with but you can’t.

Straight from the horses mouth in an interview. http://www.hungertv.com/feature/get-know-milky-chance/

I think this song could be gives the illusion that it's drug related but maybe they're both to young to be in love. My interpretation their love is to young and there fore forbidden.

In the first verse: In the beginning their relationship was approved or ok but something happened and either it's now forbidden or someone is keeping them apart. He's obviously in love with her, and missing her. Could be parents, friends whoever, what he hopes is they didn't convince her otherwise but what he does know without a doubt is that her "heart is strong" and he knows she loves him.

In the chorus, either he's thinking about what they would do should they be together again or they have somehow found a way to be together. Dancing is a metaphor for living and living happily together. Stoned in paradise could just be that they are without a doubt happy just to be together. Shouldn't talk about it -could refer to not talking about how much they love each other and that they must keep their secret of getting together.

The second verse is her.
She is cold and locked away (no sunshine) and she too is also missing him, as she loves him without changing but whatever or whoever is keeping her away from him.

Verse And again she dreams of when they will be together again or their together. Either way they shouldn't talk about how much they love each other.

My Interpretation

@Nuno11 I feel exactly like this when im with my best freind. My parents dont let me hang around when im with just him because I get violent when im around him. But we hang out anyways. He doesnt feel the same way :( but at least we are freinds and he doesnt hate me :)

i feel like the song could have something to do with long diastance relationships. "They’ve always been so kind But now they’ve brought you away from here" like her parents moved her away from her love. and i believe the rest of the song is just talking about how when they come together in the future to live it out.

My Interpretation

"Stolen Dance" strikes me as a complex song, which could mean many things. At first sight, it's simply a love story, where the narrator can't live without his second half, constantly "needs [her] by [his] side" and "feels lonely" if deprived of her presence. But then several questions arise. Who are the people, who were kind at first but separated the two lovers later? And why shouldn't they "talk about it"?

Amongst the interpretations I read here, I found the drug one most convincing, but it is my personal opinion. What justifies it, is the word "stoned", whose meaning is sometimes drug-related.

I also have my own interpretation, but you might not agree with me. The love between the narrator and "her" could be a criminal one, in case she is not eighteen yet, for instance. In which case, the aforementioned people could be the girl's parents or even his own ones. Age is just one possible interpretation. There could be more. But developing the first one, the narrator could even be criminally obsessed with children, and this would make the unclear lyrics of the song clearer. If the girl speaks about what they do together (I doubt the "dancing" in the song should be taken literally), he'll go to court and will probably never see her again. Something in the narrator's voice, when he sings about his separation tells me that it is not pure love he is experiencing.

But I'm painting everything in dark colors, it seems. Of course, the song could be something a lot more positive (not a whole lot though, considering the narrator's sufferings) and the drug interpretation (the first one) sounds as reasonable.

My Interpretation

@A199 I actually came to this conclusion the first time I heard the song. Then I heard the drug analysis and thought I was just creepy, but we're not, our's actually makes more sense. They actually say in an interview it has to do with a relationship, and I'm sure flat out saying "it's about pedophilia" wouldn't go over too well, so I'd say our conclusion is fairly safe. The drug analysis actually makes a lot of sense until the like "you've never danced like that before." The only logical way to turn with the dancing metaphor as pertaining...

@A199 dudes, that's just creepy!

@A199 stoned is always intoxicated, unless it means beaten with stones, lol

“It took me three years to write the song,” admits Clemens Rehbein, the vocalist-guitarist and big-haired half of the duo, which also includes DJ Philipp Dausch. Explaining the song's meaning, Rehbein says in a video interview, “It’s basically about missing a person and yearning for some love. (It’s) about heartaches but also about hope and looking forward to seeing better times.”

"Stolen Dance" - In my opinion, it's about his love for her. How much paradise he feels when they're together & how much pain he feels when they're apart. The stoned in paradise could just be a metaphor for how awesome he feels when he's with her, or perhaps they both enjoy getting stoned together. In any case, whatever "they" that's keeping her from him, well it's a "Stolen Dance" so maybe they're at a dance party and "they" are other guys or girls who keep stealing her away from him to dance with one on one. :) Cheers!

Maybe you could think that my imagination is high but when i hear this song i always think a story like this: the writer has a girlfriend or wife but he don't do this dance with her. The "her" that he talking about is a girl about his past maybe his ex-lover or his first love and they have one night for this dance and they "shouldn't talk about it" because of his wife or girlfriend. And somehow i think that this ex-lover knows his girlfriend they can even be close friends.I think she (girlfriend/wife) stole at a time this dance from his ex-lover.

This is why music is so great... any song can cater to your feelings and it comforts you in whatever situation you are in. BUTTTT, Clemens says... "It's less of a story than a feeling. The feeling in the song refers to a certain moment I wanted to hold on to. It's the sentiment you experience when you miss somebody you really like and just can't spend time with that person. You're sad the other person isn't there, but you're also happy for the beautiful moments you've spent together." Which I suppose doesn't necessarily mean it's not about drugs. He's vague. Didn't say, "I'm sad I can't spend time with my [SPECIFIC PERSON] anymore but I'd happy for the good times we had." He also says, in general, that leaving room for interpretation is important to him, so interpret on :)
