Everybody Moves Lyrics
It’s cold as shadows disappear toward the light
As ghosts of once friends wander round inside the night
Between the sadness and the sounds of wars and rage
We all lose our load and wallow in this darkest age.
But still…
Everybody moves, everybody changes
Everybody moves away
From me
Now comes July as we brave this change in scene
Where lives go sinking and the light has never been
Despair brings some to the point of no return
Still others listen now to the sounds of all we yearn
But still…
Everybody moves, everybody changes
Everybody moves away
From me
But still…
Everybody moves, everybody changes
Everybody moves away
From me
Everybody moves away, everybody moves away
Everybody moves away, everybody moves away
Everybody moves away, everybody moves away
Everybody moves away, everybody moves away
Will I ever come home?
As ghosts of once friends wander round inside the night
Between the sadness and the sounds of wars and rage
We all lose our load and wallow in this darkest age.
Everybody moves, everybody changes
Everybody moves away
From me
Where lives go sinking and the light has never been
Despair brings some to the point of no return
Still others listen now to the sounds of all we yearn
Everybody moves, everybody changes
Everybody moves away
From me
Everybody moves, everybody changes
Everybody moves away
From me
Everybody moves away, everybody moves away
Everybody moves away, everybody moves away
Everybody moves away, everybody moves away

I think this song is about hope and despair. About friends, and friendships lost. About the loneliness we feel sometimes, even though we might be surrounded by people.
It invokes thoughts of the times in life when we might be feeling really lost, as you would feel if the one you love or people you thought really cared for, abandoned you instead.
It might take you to the point of ending your life. To that dark place.
The song is so haunting in that way.
However, there is something paradoxically uplifting in the chorus in the manner in which it is sung. It seems to elude to an inner strength, or ‘force of life’ in us that recognizes our ability to adapt to the inevitable change life brings our way.
Originally performed by Died Pretty. However, there is a cover of this song performed by Courtney Barnett & Dave Faulkner (Hoodoo Gurus) that is exceptionally good. Include the word ‘Rockwiz’ in your search.
A terrific song by Died Pretty - haunting, yet uplifting.
The cover version mentioned by Wess is also worthy.
