You cannot change the life you were born to live
And as you play your part the world will take and give
And madness, it may not be guaranteed
This empire's a burden you'll see
The hand cannot owe
What the mind cannot read
The war is just an inch under your skin
And your palace, just a trophy of your sin
The body's just important as the soul
The power's not complete without control
This empire's a burden you’ll see
There's no polishing this poverty
I’m passing my torch to the blind
I hope your luck's better than mine
Vultures circle the sky waiting for something to die
Children stare at the sun waiting to bathe in its blood
I won’t dull sense of time
I'm passing my torch to the blind
I hope your luck's better than mine
This empire's a burden to me
My hands cannot owe
What my eyes cannot see
Vultures circle the sky waiting for something to die
Children stare at the sun waiting to bathe in its blood
Vultures circle the sky waiting for something to die
Children stare at the sun waiting to bathe in its blood
You cannot change the life you were born to live.
And as you play your part the world will take and give
And madness, it may not be guaranteed
This empire's a burden you'll see
The hand cannot owe
What the mind cannot read
And your palace, just a trophy of your sin
The body's just important as the soul
The power's not complete without control
This empire's a burden you’ll see
There's no polishing this poverty
I’m passing my torch to the blind
I hope your luck's better than mine
Children stare at the sun waiting to bathe in its blood
I hope your luck's better than mine
This empire's a burden to me
My hands cannot owe
What my eyes cannot see
Children stare at the sun waiting to bathe in its blood
Vultures circle the sky waiting for something to die
Children stare at the sun waiting to bathe in its blood

I hear a similar theme to "Life Less Ordinary" from later on the same album... he's feeling disillusioned with the life he was supposedly "born to live." I think he's saying he'll happily trade off the punk rock/touring lifestyle to someone more naive and "blind" to the "burden" that the "empire" really is. He has the life some might seek after but it's a bittersweet one riddled with drug withdrawal and depression.
