Birth in Reverse Lyrics
Oh what an ordinary day
Take out the garbage, masturbate
I'm still holding for the laugh
The dogs will bark, so let them bark
The birds will cry, I'll let them cry
Here's my report from the edge
Like a birth in reverse
What I saw through the blinds
You could say that I'm sane
In phenomenal lies
I'm the cause; make a turn
Near the party line
Like a birth in reverse
In America
This tomb will haunt me through the war
Laugh all you want, but I want more
'Cause what I'm swearing, I never sworn before
Like a birth in reverse
What I saw through the blinds
You could say that I'm sane
In phenomenal lies
I'm the cause; make a turn
Near the party line
Like a birth in reverse
In America
Like a birth in reverse
What I saw through the blinds
You could say that I'm sane
In phenomenal lies
I'm the cause; make a turn
Near the party line
Like a birth in reverse
In America
Take out the garbage, masturbate
I'm still holding for the laugh
The birds will cry, I'll let them cry
Here's my report from the edge
What I saw through the blinds
You could say that I'm sane
In phenomenal lies
I'm the cause; make a turn
Near the party line
Like a birth in reverse
In America
Laugh all you want, but I want more
'Cause what I'm swearing, I never sworn before
What I saw through the blinds
You could say that I'm sane
In phenomenal lies
I'm the cause; make a turn
Near the party line
Like a birth in reverse
In America
What I saw through the blinds
You could say that I'm sane
In phenomenal lies
I'm the cause; make a turn
Near the party line
Like a birth in reverse
In America

I think it's about being hermit and staying in your house all day. She looks out the window and is inspired to go out into the world despite usually being shy and withdrawn. She finds herself enjoying sociability more than she thought she would.
i actually own the album and the lyrics are, "You could say that I'm saying phenomenal lies On the cosmic eternity party line Was a birth in reverse in America"
Also, it's, "This tune will hum me through the war"
This, from over on Genius... "Clark has stated in an interview with Salon magazine that “Birth in Reverse” actually means death, an idea that was first put forth by her producer."
I like abstraction in lyrics, it opens them up to a more varied and individual interpretation as the listener is forced to project meaning into them.
The world is getting dumber by the day.
The world getting dumber by the day is a "sad" way to listen to this song
