Back to Nature

I used to say I want to get back to nature, but what is that?
Is it a forest, a tree, or a stone, or a place where no one else goes?
I said “give me some space, and I’ll run away and wait until the sun sets
All alone, all alone”
I said “please can you find me somewhere to hide I’m not myself today
But I remember a time when I was a child and I never felt this way
What happened to those days?”
I used to sit on the bus trying not to catch eyes with anyone else
Instead of the friends that I hadn’t met, they were all strangers I tried to forget
And I’d push them away, keep to myself
But then I never felt
So alone, so alone
I said “excuse me while I distract myself, drown my sorrows for a while
‘coz I’m sure I could find me some happiness if I only had the time
if I only had the time”
If I could see the world through your eyes, would I judge you the way that I have?
If I could walk a day in your shoes, could I still find an excuse
to hate you although you’re suffering
Searching just like me

Or would I find a place inside that remembers how to care
And instead of seeing ugliness, I’d see beauty everywhere

A place where I’d run and laugh and sing and I know I’ll never be
