Lost It to Trying Lyrics
What will we do now?
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
What will we do now?
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
What can we say now?
Our mouths only lying
Our mouths only lying
What can we say now?
Our mouths only lying
Our mouths only lying
Give in and get out
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
Give in and get out
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
Give in and get out
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
Give in and get out
We rise in the dying
We…
What will we do now?
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
What will we do now?
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
Our mouths only lying
Our mouths only lying
Our mouths only lying
Our mouths only lying
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
We rise in the dying
We…
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying
We lost it to trying

This seems to be one of their songs that doesn't lean towards meaning of lyrics, but more towards the sound and the movement it creates with music.
Definitely. And the lyrics do supplement the instrumental well.

@StoneColdFox I agree that this song is more focused on the music, but I still believe Ryan but a lot of thought into the lyrics, regardless of how simple they may seem.

Well obviously it's mostly straightforward breakup stuff:
'What will we do now? We lost it...' 'What can we say now? Our mouths only lying'
All self-explanatory.
'Lost it to trying' is a bit more subtle, but in light of 'Give in and get out', clearly there were incompatibilities in the relationship, they wanted different things, but interestingly they tried too hard to make it work on their own individual terms, rather than loving more generously the way things simply were. Until they lost it to trying.
The crucial line is 'We rise in the dying'. Better to have loved and lost? This love failed but they emerge stronger out of it? The EP version video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgqZNh9w5bw) makes it seem much scarier than that though! Like they agree they can't go on together, but they also can't go on apart, so enter a suicide pact, hoping to rise to a better place where they can finally be happy together.
Pretty cool for so few lyrics :)
Come to think of it, 'lost it to trying' probably isn't 'lost it by trying', exactly. More like lost the doing (the being in love) to the trying to (be in love).
