Where's the Indifference Now? Lyrics
Where's the usual thing?
I'm comfortable it's nothing to me
Don't interrupt my evening,
I'm on the phone, watching TV
How did he do it?
I have to know,
Why would someone so young,
With so many reasons to be happy,
So many reasons to be happy...
Last time I saw him, he was laughing
Maybe trying too hard,
We think we're all so invincible,
But where's the indifference now?
What time did they discover him?
They had to smash the door
And they found him face down
They said that there were bottles,
Bottles and pills all around
How and why would anyone
Do such a thing without explaining?
There must be more to the picture
There must be more to the picture
We have to dig, we have to pry,
And speculate until we're sure
Was it a tragedy or part of the plan?
The devil is in the details
There's so much more to know
I'm sure there's someone who knew this would happen
A high school friend who hadn't seen him in a while
An aquiantance who noticed he seemed distant
There's so much more to know
There's so much more to know
So much more to know
There's so much more to know
Get a picture of his girlfriend crying
Flowers strewn around the entrance
His parents are asking for some time to grieve
Even better can't just everybody leave
Even better can't just everybody leave
Even better can't just everybody leave
I'm comfortable it's nothing to me
Don't interrupt my evening,
I'm on the phone, watching TV
I have to know,
Why would someone so young,
With so many reasons to be happy,
So many reasons to be happy...
Maybe trying too hard,
We think we're all so invincible,
But where's the indifference now?
They had to smash the door
And they found him face down
They said that there were bottles,
Bottles and pills all around
Do such a thing without explaining?

There must be more to the picture
And speculate until we're sure
Was it a tragedy or part of the plan?
The devil is in the details
I'm sure there's someone who knew this would happen
A high school friend who hadn't seen him in a while

This song is about morbid curiosity. It's about a suicide, and how everyone cares now--when no one cared before. No one had paid attention to him before he committed suicide, now everyone is going through every aspect of his life to figure out the cause.
The song is about Heath Ledger. He said so last night on NPR's Fresh Air show (12/4/13).
