This song kills me, man. I think it's about having had someone that seemed to be your reason for living, or trying to be better, and eventually coming to the point where the potential between the two of you has died.
There are moments you will remember when they seriously meant everything to you, and you remember those with a smile, but the connection is severed now, so it's just memories.
I think it's just about leaving a relationship with no contempt but also no more love.
