You Already Know Lyrics

Sometimes they move so fast
Sometimes they move so fast
Never stop to ask, it's already passed

So how can you move so slow?
How can you move so slow?
You miss it if you don't, you miss it if you don't already know
Already know, already know, already know, already know

When your love is right
When your love is right
You can sleep at night, you'll be sleeping just fine

But when your love is bad
When your love is bad
You don't know why you're so sad, but it's time to go, you already know
Already know, already know, already know
You already know, you already know, you already know, already know

Sometimes they move so fast
Sometimes they move so fast
Never stop to ask, it's already passed

So how can you move so slow?
How can you move it so slow?
You missed it, you missed it

You already know, you already know, you already know, you already know
You already know, you already know, you already know

Please stop wondering why you feel so bad
When you already know
Please stop wondering why you feel so sad
When you already know
Please stop wondering why you feel so bad
When you already know
Please stop wondering why you feel so sad
When you already know

She said, "How do I know when I know, when I know?"
She said, "How do I know when I know, when I know?"

I think this goes along with the theme of the album: reflection, or self-reflection. You already contain the answers within yourself. If you pretty much already know what you need to do, then stop asking questions. Maybe that's what this is about? Nice song, either way!!!

To me, this song is about commitment. It's about when you're in love but you're unsure if you've found the right one, so you waffle, and you don't know if you should commit...

But you already know. (Just commit already, you love them!)

Either that, or your relationship has soured -- on some level you know it but you're kind of in denial, and so you don't know whether to call it quits yet.

But you already know. (Just break up with them, it's over!)

The theme of committing to a long-term relationship and making it work seems to be a big one on Reflektor. It seems important in this song, and in Porno (you can cry, I won't go / you can scream, I won't go) and in Afterlife (I've gotta know / can we work it out? / we scream and shout 'till we work it out).

My Interpretation

@amandimal I wish it was about commitment, but its about breaking up. "When your love is right You can't sleep at night You've been sleeping just fine But when your love is bad [...] Don't know why you're so sad But it's time to go"

Normally you dont go if you want to commit. :/

This seems to be about a girl in a relationship which has roller coaster highs and lows. Now she's asking her friend (or maybe even her mom or dad, based on if one sees the question as naive) if she loves him, and in asking the question, she's confirmed through this doubt that it was just a quick flash of romance. Still, she has hesitation in leaving him, begging the question "why are you you moving so slow?" from the advice person. Instead of listening, however, she stays with him, repeating the cycle even though her friend/loved one is screaming that she already knows she doesn't and won't love him.

I'm pretty sure the chorus is:

You are Reginald Oh Reginald You are Reginald You are Reginald You are Reginald You are Reginald You are Reginald Oh Reginald

Translation

Having been a big worrier all my life, it occured to me recently that is my ceaseless wanting to know what will happen in the future that has created a prison for myself.

I'm constantly submerged in trying to know, and I rarely allow space for the unknown to work it's magic on me.

Every time I have this realisation, that I can stop trying to know right this instant. the world's possibilities start unfolding and expanding in my mind as I begin to let go of surface level worries, which are then replaced by deeper and deeper worries. My whole body tingles with the excitement of not having to be bound to all of the rubbish I'd been dwelling on only moments earlier.

The mind then comes back and asks if this is the real way out of bondage into freedom "how can I know if I know?" but you've already been gifted the answer so "please stop wondering why you feel so bad!"

Maybe.

What I think this song is talking about is depression in the American culture, and the overuse of prescription drugs to solve the problem and not looking at it from your own internal problems and trying to self-help and figure out why you are depressed or sad.

"Sometimes it moves so fast If you stop to ask It's already passed So how can you move so slow?" This is talking about how it isn't acceptable to sit around and reexamine your life, and you just need to get over it; whereas in reality you need to be able to accept you past instead of just burying it in your mind and pretending it didn't happen.

" She said "Well how do I know When I know When I know?" (You already know)" Basically, any sadness whatsoever in modern culture is classified as just depression. You just need to take a pill for it and you'll be fine. You don't need to ask why, the answer to any sadness you're experiencing is just depression i.e you already know

All in all "You already know" just means that you shouldn't need to reexamine yourself, but it's used in a sarcastic sense, because the majority of the time you can fix this sadness by looking at yourself and your life and fixing any external and internal problems instead of just taking a pill. (Although this is not always the case, it is the majority of the time)

Just my two cents.
