Yeah, you guys ready?

Katy Perry
And TEE
Ha ha, here we go

I knew you were
You were gonna come to me
And here you are
But you better choose carefully
'Cause I, I'm capable of anything
Of anything and everything

Make me your Aphrodite
Make me your one and only
But don't make me your enemy (enemy)
Your enemy (your enemy), your enemy

So you wanna play with magic?
Boy, you should know what you're fallin' for
Baby, do you dare to do this?
'Cause I'm coming at you like a dark horse (hey)

Are you ready for, ready for (hey)
A perfect storm, perfect storm? (Hey, hey)
'Cause once you're mine, once you're mine (hey, hey, hey, hey)
(There's no going back)

Mark my words
This love will make you levitate
Like a bird, like a bird without a cage
But down to earth
If you choose to walk away, don't walk away

It's in the palm of your hand now, baby
It's a yes or a no, no maybe
So just be sure before you give it all to me
All to me, give it all to me

So you wanna play with magic?
Boy, you should know what you're fallin' for
Baby, do you dare to do this?
'Cause I'm coming at you like a dark horse (hey)

Are you ready for, ready for (hey)
A perfect storm, perfect storm? (Hey, hey)
'Cause once you're mine, once you're mine (hey, hey, hey, hey)
(There's no going back)

So you wanna play with magic?
Boy, you should know what you're fallin' for (you should know)
Baby, do you dare to do this?
'Cause I'm coming at you like a dark horse (like a dark horse)
Are you ready for, ready for (ready for)
A perfect storm, perfect storm? (A perfect storm)
'Cause once you're mine, once you're mine (oh)

Ok I can see the satanic side. But is it that hard to believe its about a love possibly. She knows she is attractive and would lure him in and she ultimatum hims into making her his aphrodite and warns him not to make her an enemy. And the lines of a perfect storm can be a strong love and once your mine theres no going back meaning once we do this and fall in love we will never fall out. This love will make you levitate that screams love story. Albiet this does have a darker borderline satanic love story sound but it can fall into a love story too I feel

    My Interpretation

Seriously, this song is not even that hard to understand. People need to chill with the crazy talk. ANYWHO, this is what I think the song is about. The girl in the song is one of those femme fatale kind of girls, you know, a woman with a really complicated but strong and attractive personality. This a woman who knows what she wants and won't put up with bs. She clearly tells this dude not to fuck with her, that if he should ONLY be with her if he truly loves her and is not trying to play games because that shit won't fly by her. She's a woman who loves blindly and recklessly, even if it consumes her. She can either be the best thing that will ever happen to him [if he truly loves her] or the worst [if he breaks her heart].

This is basically a strong and complex woman telling a guy to REALLY think twice before trying to get with her, cuz he's never met a woman like her.

I'm surprised no one's noted the relationship I've seen mentioned elsewhere with this turn of phrase.

Supposedly this is about an irresistible, femme fatale kind of woman. Once you fall in love with her, there's no turning back. As Juicy J puts it "she eat your heart out." She's the dark horse in love so you better think twice whether you want to get with this girl.

I suppose this is one of those produced songs where it has almost no relation to real life, it's just a fantasy. I definitely don't think this is Katy in real life. Based on other songs on her album she's a lot more vulnerable.

    Song Meaning

Right let me get this straight, I know a lot of people are obsessed with the whole illuminati thing and I get it. The Egyptian-themed music video for 'Dark Horse' did include a lot of pyramids and Katy also portrayed Cleopatra as EVIL with supernatural powers. Perry is also seen holding up a monocle bearing the Eye Of Horus; which symbolises great power. Although the song and video do seem a little bit weird and Illuminati orientated, I can give you my interpretation for the lyrics without all the Illuminati crap, and why Katy might of wrote it like this.

I knew you were You were gonna come to me And here you are But you better choose carefully 'Cause I’m capable of anything Of anything and everything

Here, Katy is explaining how she knew this particular person was going to give into her and come to her. She saying that they must choose carefully because she may be dangerous and untrustworthy. She explains how she is capable of anything which means she is so powerful and she can do whatever she likes with you. She is in control.

Make me your Aphrodite Make me your one and only But don’t make me your enemy, your enemy, your enemy

She is wanting to be spoiled with love and what else. She wants to be the centre of attention and to be made 'one and only' by you. You should be careful, as it seems she will turn out even more evil if you get on the wrong side of her.

So you wanna play with magic Boy, you should know whatcha falling for Baby do you dare to do this 'Cause I’m coming atcha like a dark horse

Dark Horse is in fact inspired by the 1996 witch film, The Craft. This is why Perry talks about magic and 'daring to do this' - Katy wanted the song to have a "witchy-spell-y kind of feel to it". The term dark horse means someone who is little known but unexpectedly wins or succeeds. Katy is telling us she's done something/going to do something unexpectedly (falling in love). The vocals in this song seem very seductive and luring.

Are you ready for, ready for A perfect storm, a perfect storm 'Cause once you’re mine, once you’re mine There’s no going back

Katy is determined to keep you with her and once you fall for her, theres no going back.

Mark my words This love will make you levitate Like a bird Like a bird without a cage But down to earth If you choose to walk away, don’t walk away

The song seems to get even more seductive yet creepier as it carries on. 'This love will make you levitate' - Katy is telling us her love is so strong and the levitation reference tells us that she is the one in charge now, she is the dominant female. It also gives the song more of a 'witchy' vibe. She is telling you not to walk away.

It’s in the palm of your hand now baby It’s a yes or no, no maybe So just be sure before you give it up to me Up to me, give it up to me

Perry is telling you that its up to you and whatever choice you make better be a carefully thought-through one. You better be sure, or else.

    Song Meaning

It's about a strong girl but when it comes to this one guy she doesn't care if he cheats on her or treats her like the love of his life "Make me your Aphrodite, make me your one and only". She doesn't "wanna make him her enemy" somehow. But when they do get in a relationship she's gonna go ham on him lmao

Once the great tribulation starts there's no more choosing sides. You'll belong to either one of both Camps. If you want to do some research, it's coming exactly as is foretold: the 2 sides: Genesis 3:15

Beginning of the great tribulation (after start, no more choosing sides): Matthew 24:21,22

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
