Heart of Gold Lyrics

I can be strong when I want to be,
You think I’m weak ‘cause you can tear me apart with the words that you speak
You think you’re in control
But you don’t understand how much you’re wrong
You choose to lash out at me, I’ve done nothing wrong
All you crave is attention and just to belong
You need to belong

And I want to be free
When my heart is made from gold
And forgiveness seems too bold
As to find it in my heart
To say "I love you"
When my heart is made from gold
And the hunt is just too bold
As to find it in my heart
To say "I love you"

Is there not enough to use your love for me
To get past the things because you envy and hate
And the fires that they breathe
To say "I looked on the small"
Can’t understand why you don’t have it all
But you don’t know how to fight for your "believe in your aims"
I just wanna do right by you, forget what has changed
‘Cause nothing is changed

And I want to be free
When my heart is made from gold
And forgiveness seems too bold
As to find it in my heart
To say "I love you"
When my heart is made from gold
And the hunt is just too bold
As to find it in my heart
To say "I love you"

For you have to be so mean
You’re such a drama queen
The way you play on every weakness that you see in me
To make you strong, knew all along
So don’t pretend like you can hardly breathe
Like it’s down to me
‘Cause it’s so unfair that you can’t see that you’re so wrong
We’re still so young

And I want to be free
When my heart is made from gold
And forgiveness seems too bold
As to find it in my heart
To say "I love you"
When my heart is made from gold
And the hunt is just too bold
As to find it in my heart
To say "I love you"

For me: I think this is about a man whom she’s in love with. Perhaps he has been raise with violence that made him lack of confidence and self esteem in order to made him tougher he prey on her weakness and lash out with meanful things/words .

Still she’s in love with him because her heart was made from gold.

By envy and hate as well as been looked as small could be he has been hurt before by relationship or again having raise or treated this way.

But she keeps on believing in him of his goal of his aims. He is being dramatic and means just because he lacks of confidence and in order to be loved. Although without her, he could just be in deadly despair on his own. He uses such means manner as his tools to get stronger and gain love without or by knowing it could hurt her terribly.

Though many things make her want to leave him but her heart is bold enough for forgiveness and love she has for him.

I think this song is about a boyfriend always being mean to her. He always calls her names for no reason, she did nothing wrong. But she can see through this hatred towards her with her big golden heart and still be able to say "I love you", she is seeing that she is the stronger one, although he thinks he is by preying on her happiness, she doesn't let it phase her because she has such a big heart! What a beautiful song, so many women go through this dating a man who calls her ugly, fat, a bitch...etc. But some women just have so much love in their hearts and realize that they can't let that get to them, and at the end of the day are still able to love.

My Interpretation

she's in love with someone who's so jealous all the time. He is tearing her down because of all this. He can't see that she's been loving him and standing up for him all the time and wouldn't go away from him. She just want them to be happy together, but he can't set aside his jealousy.
