Lover Lyrics
If you deny the wounds of your lover you will discover
That what you had is shattered and wasted
Did you have to take it so far?
The truth exposed to love is devoured
And the ivory tower is coming down
A vow betrayed and honor is broken
The wounds are open and bleeding out
But it’s all I can do to carry on
It brings all I fear to life
If you deny the wounds of your lover you will discover
That what you had is shattered and wasted
Did you have to take it so far?
Did you have to throw it all away?
Did you have to shove it in my face?
Did you have to tear my world apart?
Did you have to take so selfishly?
No matter how you hurt the ones you need?
Did you have to fall so very far?
Did you have to throw it all away?
Did you have to shove it in my face?
Did you have to tear my world apart?
Did you have to take so selfishly?
No matter how you hurt the ones you need?
Did you have to fall so very far?
The trigger’s warm, the chamber is loaded
Lost in a moment. What went wrong?
There’s nothing left this house has been broken
But still I’m holding, I’m holding on
If you deny the wounds of your lover you will discover
That what you had is shattered and wasted
Did you have to take it so far?
If you deny the wounds of your lover you will discover
(Now you've come so far, can you live with what you've done and who you are?)
You can see it in your love
(Now you've come so far, can you live with what you've done and who you are?)
The wounds are open and I’m bleeding out
It’s so real
If you deny the wounds of your lover you will discover
(Now you've come so far, can you live with what you've done and who you are?)
That what you had is shattered and wasted
(Now you've come so far, can you live with what you've done and who you are?)
Did you have to take it so far?

A simple song for them, musically, but one of my favorites and certainly powerful...you can feel some serious emotion from Myles here. Anyway, I have my own personal feelings as to the meaning of this song, but it's obviously about being cheated on. Really surprised there haven't been any comments on this yet...it's easily a top 5 AB song for me.
I feel more it's not being cheated on, nor exactly being betrayed in some way. I see it more as ignorance in a relationship. One person has had pain in their past, and the other is completely ignoring this and is making these pains worse. That's not the best explanation I can do, but it's the general idea.
This is one of the songs AB direct to a generic friend who is messing with his life. More specifically, he's playing around with some girls (or boy if it's a girl they're talking to). By doing so, he's denying that he's hurting her. This is true for the first three lines. Than, it's the friend who is speaking. He says "The truth exposed to love is devoured" meaning that he was never into that girl so much, even if he made her his lover; he has another relationship, but the current situation is compromising his mental healthness: "order is broken". He also says that he is "Lost in the moment, what went wrong?" and ignites positivity with "I'm holding on"
The lines "Did you have to tear my world apart?" mean that this friend was behaving as if betraying and acting carelessly to his lover was the right thing to do, and "shoved it in the face" of AB who are talking to him. "Did you have to fall so very hard?" closes that same part with AB asking him if he had to behave so bad in the end, only to find himself trapped in the ivory tower which is now going down.
I think this is an intimate and powerful message and one of the deepest songs by AB. I also guess DragonDude interpretation is educated, but I think the song digs deeper into relationships and life as a whole.
