Chartreuse Lyrics
We painted our faces
We were a resting place for the light
I must admit, an arresting sight
We looked alright
But now it's just traces
As we fade in black and white
We put make up on with no light
We're too uptight (too uptight with you, too uptight)
Color me this way
Color me that way
Color me inside out
Color me upside down
Color me this way
Color me that way
Color me inside out
Color me upside down
To show my true colors
I must first be exposed to the light
I trust first, then secondly fight
With all my might
I've blown my cover
In plain view, I'm as plain as you
But you can't deny my hues
Red, blue, chartreuse
Color me this way
Color me that way
Color me inside out
Color me upside down
Color me this way
Color me that way
Color me inside out
Color me upside down
Color me this way
Color me that way
Color me inside out
Color me upside down
Color me this way
Color me that way
Color me inside out
Color me upside down

We painted our faces We were at resting place in for the light I must admit on that resting site We looked alright- *I think this stanza means that these people wore a mask daily by painting their faces & they took some time to rest their bodies and minds away from the world. Although they looked alright from the outside they still needed time to really be alright.
But now it's just traces As we fade in black and white We put make up on with no light We're too uptight (too uptight with you, too uptight)
*I think the next stanza means now that they've had plenty of time to rest their mind & body they start to come into contact with who they really are due to their isolation period away from the world. They see the darkness they live in...is one that they've created on their own & so they continue in the darkness while applying their painted mask on their face but are also too uptight to see that they themselves are the problem.

I've blown my cover In plane view I'm as plain as you But you can't Deny my huge red blue chartreuse
*The last 2 stanza are saying in order to achieve being YOURSELF you must first be honest with SELF & then you fight when NEEDED. They now see that they are no better than anyone else but still and yet you can not deny them of their big huge personality.
