I feel this song is about not being able to help who you love. When i first heard this song, i thought of the guy who is my best friend but were both afraid to cross the line of friendship/relationship. Though we both know that we love each other. Hes more accepting it than I, however 3 years ago youd never think that we would end up where we are today. 3 years ago I was head over heals in love with my ex fiance, and never realized that over time id fall for my best friend.
Also, there are times when you fall in love with someone. And you can't do nothing about it. Most of the time it hurts you, but you cannot deny that feeling because when a new person comes, all you see is that chance growing again.
I think it's like he fall in love , that this girl wasn't the type he expected, but he realize that he love her , he love who he love , even she wasn't part of his plan .
