Love on an atom,
Love on a cloud,
To see the birth of all that isn't now
Can you imagine a love that is so proud?
It never has to question why or how
So I'd abandon the love in my dreams
When I wake up I'm soaking in my sheets

Breathe
Breathe
Believe, believe, believe, believe

For all of our youth
We have craved them
Their beauty and their truth

Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe
Believe, believe, believe, believe
Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe
Believe, believe

That we are loud like

Love on an atom
Love on a cloud
To see the birth of all that isn't now
Can you imagine a love that is so proud?
It never has to question why or how

For all of our youth
We have craved them
Their beauty and their truth
So we name them
And somehow they pull us through
We have craved them
For all of our youth

Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe
Believe, Believe, believe, believe

We are loud like love
We are loud like love
We are loud like love
We are loud like love
We are loud like love
We are loud like love
We are loud like love
We are loud like love

We are loud like love

    My Interpretation
I think this song is about childbirth as well. The main character talks about this amazing dream that is becoming a reality for them. They had their love and now he's asking her: 'To see the birth of all that isn't now Can you imagine a love that is so proud?'. He still can't believe he's about to be a parent. Abandoning the love in the dreams might refer to giving up what he once thought was love because when you become a parent, you discover that there's another level of love. The love you have for your child is stronger than for any partner you could have. And the main character really wanted to be a parent: 'For all of our youth We have craved them Their beauty and their truth' - Children are innocent and always tell the truth. And that's the beauty about them. And yes, 'So we name them And somehow they pull us through' is showing how much strength we gain by being a parent. It's a whole different adventure. A new challenge unlike anything else, but children give us the strength to. So yeah, this song is all about becoming a parent.

Sunglasses at Night

In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.

Shudder to Think
This song is timeless, and nearly 20 years after its creation, still possesses the mystique it did the first time i heard it ~1994. To me, at first blush, all those years ago, it had some kind of homo-erotic allure. The line "so that the others may do" tells of something which must be done for others to follow suit. It felt like like some kind of roxy-glam-pop invitation to sexual liberation. Upon further introspection I think the song may not have an intrinsic meaning, but simply represents a sort of "holding open the door" for people who otherwise might be affronted by this song/band's unusual style. I know, as a sort of armchair rock-historian, that there have been few bands so daring and so true to the sound that wanted to emerge from within, whether the creator wanted it or not. This band handled it with elegance and grace seldom, if ever, seen.

Moyet later described how her song "Goodbye 70's" had been inspired by her disillusionment with how the late-1970s punk scene had turned out, saying, "'Goodbye 70's' is about punk and not caring how you were dressed, and then I discovered that so many of my friends that I'd thought it all really meant something to just saw it as another trend... That's what 'Goodbye 70's' was all about, about how sour the whole thing became."
