Dear Sister, Your Brother Lyrics

Come back old lights, and childish fights
Do you remember all the good times
When we were young, and when we made fun
Of all those lovers making old rhymes

As I sail out onto the sea
All these rocks burning beneath me
Oh oh oh woah oh

Please say everything is okay
Tell me we can go play
Like we did when we were younger
Oh, oh we'll sing and shout
Lying on the ground
Starring up at worlds beyond our own

And would you save the stinging bee
If it fell into the ocean
Yes I would, I'd pull it out
Like a brother to a sister

I feel the sting and hear you shout
As you find another mister
Oh oh oh woah oh

Please say everything is okay
Tell me we can go play
Like we did when we were younger
Oh, oh we'll sing and shout
Lying on the ground
Starring up at worlds beyond our

'Cause yeah you'll sing when I shout
'Cause you know I'm gonna make it
And you'll sing, and I'll shout
'Cause you know we're gonna make it
And you'll sing when you shout
'Cause you know you're gonna make it

Please say everything is okay
Tell me we can go play
Like we did when we were younger
Oh, oh we'll sing and shout
Lying on the ground
Starring up at worlds beyond our own (Repeat 2X)

Cover art for Dear Sister, Your Brother lyrics by Talain Rayne

I believe this song is about a brother who sees his sister shunning him over and over, and yet still loves her, still wants things to go back to the way they used to be. He still loves her no matter what she does, because she is family, and he remembers how things used to be. More detailed analysis below.

"Come back old lights, and childish fights Do you remember all the good times" He is trying to get her to remember how things were.

"When we were young, and when we made fun Of all those lovers making old rhymes." She is agreeing, and reminiscing on how they thought they wouldn't turn out like other people, they "made fun" of them, but now they know better.

"As I sail out onto the sea All these rocks burning beneath me" They are both talking about how they moved on with their lives, "sailing out onto the sea", with the constant threat of something going wrong, falling into the sea onto the dangerous "rocks burning" beneath the waves.

"Please say everything is okay Tell me we can go play Like we did when we were younger Oh, oh we'll sing and shout Lying on the ground Starring up at worlds beyond our own" This is pretty self explanatory. They are asking each other if everything is still "okay" between the two of them, despite everything that has happened between them, and how they wish they could return to how they were, when they were close.

These next verses are the key to understanding the whole song in my opinion:

"And would you save the stinging bee If it fell into the ocean" She is asking if he would still save her from the ocean, from the rocks, she has fallen into, as she has made some bad decisions in her life, and has "stung" her brother over and over, like a bee, worrying that she might have "stung" him too many times for him to still "save her".

"Yes I would, I'd pull it out Like a brother to a sister" He says that yes, he still would pull her out from the "ocean", no matter what she does, no matter how many times she "stings" her, he would still forgive and save her "like a brother to a sister", because they are family, and he loves her no matter what she does.

"I feel the sting and hear you shout As you find another mister" But she "stings" him again, shouting at him, they get into arguments again, and she shuns him again, "finding another mister", and the whole cycle repeats itself, since she is finding ANOTHER mister, even though the "misters" she is with might be what is causing her troubles in the first place.

"'Cause yeah you'll sing when I shout 'Cause you know I'm gonna make it And you'll sing, and I'll shout 'Cause you know we're gonna make it And you'll sing when you shout 'Cause you know you're gonna make it" They are both singing about how they have good times where they are "singing" and they have bad times where they are "shouting", over and over, but no matter what happens between them, they know "we're gonna make it".

Since the girl is singing the chorus as well, she wants things to go back to how they used to be as well, and yet no matter what happens, no matter how much they wish, they can never go back to when they were younger. They keep going through these cycles of him pulling her out of her problems just as she is drowning, them being happy with each other, "singing", and then they start shouting and arguing again, she stings him once again, and goes off again to fall into the ocean again.
