Substance Lyrics

substance out of reach, and taken with it in silence
we had hope to put it out first and yet its all that we are left with

words we never said, did we really mean them, someone give it to me now
words we havent said, but you never hear them someone standing by the door
the common man wouldnt give up his throne

a change in the dark and you dont even know it
its much to discard, too ashamed to deserve it
and you will forget and i will remember
and everything changes you dont know it exists

words we never said, did we really mean them, someone give it to me now
words we havent said, but you never hear them someone standing by the door
the common man wouldnt give up his throne

but you will forget and i will remember

Cover art for Substance lyrics by Dodos, The

The common man wouldn't give up his throne" is a great line. Hits the spot I think for anyone that's been in an argument and never wanted to back down.

I think the substance in question is peace, or just for the relationship to go back to normal. When you've had a major fight, it seems like you long for it like an addict needs the drug.

The last line seems is great cos it illustrates the effect the fight has on him in the long run
