Cups Lyrics
I've got my ticket for the long way 'round
Two bottles whiskey for the way
And I sure would like some sweet company
And I'm leaving tomorrow
What d'you say?
When I'm gone, when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my hair
You're gonna miss me everywhere, oh
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
When I'm gone, when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my hair
You're gonna miss me everywhere, oh
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
I've got my ticket for the long way 'round
The one with the prettiest of views
It's got mountains, it's got rivers
It's got sights to give you shivers
But it sure would be prettier with you
When I'm gone, when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my walk
You're gonna miss me by my talk, oh
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
Two bottles whiskey for the way
And I sure would like some sweet company
And I'm leaving tomorrow
What d'you say?
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my hair
You're gonna miss me everywhere, oh
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my hair
You're gonna miss me everywhere, oh
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
The one with the prettiest of views
It's got mountains, it's got rivers
It's got sights to give you shivers
But it sure would be prettier with you
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my walk
You're gonna miss me by my talk, oh
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone

My interpretation of this song is that the singer is giving her partner a warning that if he doesn't come with her, he's going to find himself missing everything about her.
It's like the singer wants her boyfriend / lover to go with her on a journey, but he doesn't want to. Despite that, she's going anyway. And she knows that he will miss her. It's like the lover doesn't recognize her value, but she does - that's why she knows he will miss her. And that's also why she's leaving - because she deserves something more. It really is, to me, a song of empowerment.
It also touches me in times of change. Moving places, jobs, situations... Even leaving this world one day. Trust that in your previous world, home, or life - you will be missed. Because like the singer, you are worthy, you are valuable - you are loved.
