Q&A
Black Summer Lyrics
Go on let your ears define (it).
Tell me can you walk me there?
Enough, I am not.
Enough, I am not real.
Go on let your ears define (it).
Tell me if you want me still?
Enough, I am not.
Enough, I'm a lot less.
Back doors are swinging,
all black is it to defend?
I'm going to walk back injured.
I'm going to walk back injured.
I'm going to walk back into it.
All that you said is heartfelt.
Nobody's protest, it's nobody's protest,
it's nobody's protest.
All that you said is haunted.
Nobody's protest, it is nobody's protest,
it is nobody's protest it is.
Heartbroken,
I breath it.
What are the reasons in
cutting a million tracks,
folded but I'm rolling.
What are the reasons,
don't wanna to walk back, that's the spirit,
love you fellow.
Dull black summer,
can you read the sign?
To an awful setting,
telling public lies.
Different colors,
different light that hope you trigger's
talking to my eyes.
Tell me can you walk me there?
Enough, I am not.
Enough, I am not real.
Tell me if you want me still?
Enough, I am not.
Enough, I'm a lot less.
all black is it to defend?
I'm going to walk back injured.
I'm going to walk back injured.
I'm going to walk back into it.
Nobody's protest, it's nobody's protest,

Nobody's protest, it is nobody's protest,
it is nobody's protest it is.
I breath it.

In my opinion the song is about a relationship that came to an end, probably during summertime.
Just look at sentences like "Tell me if you want me still?" and "I'm going to walk back injured." Appearently the writer's been hurt a lot. And it seems he's not yet over it and don't want to give up "I'm going to walk back into it."
Than he seems to directly speak to his former lover: "All that you said is heartfelt." The breaking up of the relationship seems to have had a huge psychological impact. He's protesting, but is feels like he's nobody: "Nobody's protest, it's nobody's protest, It's nobody's protest."
And it seems the answers he's got to his questions to his former lover confused him even more: "All that you said is haunted."
If we were not yet convinced, there it comes: "Heartbroken, I breath it."
But then, there's the turn in the song, suddenly the music changes and the lyrics change: "Don't wanna to walk back, that's the spirit". Now the writers seems to have started his new life, without his former lover.
There's even a the suggestion that his former lover is telling lies about him: "Can you read the sign? To an awful setting, Telling public lies."
Yet, the song ends with hope: "Different colors, Different light that hope you trigger's Talking to my eyes." Now the writer seems to be ready to really start his new life.
A great song, it even grows over the years. One day this will have become a real classic. It's a shame Efterklang is so much undervalued. In my opinion it's a great band. And 'Piramida' is a brilliant album.
@Efterklangfan Yes, this is real classic. And I love the great voice of Katinka Fogh Vindelev. Efterklang deserves a much broader audience.
