I think the whole space trip is a metaphor for a relationship. This guy wanted some kind of a fling, nothing serious...but all of a sudden he can't get out of what he has started. He's strapped in, and can't get out. The girl thinks he's great, and wants to get serious; but that's now the last thing he wants! He even contemplates contacting the girls' ex-boyfriend for help ("the last man to be here"), but that won't do any good because "he won't be back this way 'til 2010"...about thirty years AFTER the setting of the song!
No one knows the meaning of this song? And by the way, what in the world are those “non correlating” lyrics doing here?
