A Ton of Love Lyrics
I lit a match in Vienna tonight
It caused a fire in New York
Where is my self-control?
You gotta learn to be thankful
For the things that you have
Now bathe my idle soul in
Desire
Taken by force
Twisted fate
Well, what weighs more
Down on your plate
A ton of love
A ton of hate
We’re waiting for
A chance of
Desire
I don't trust the government
I don’t trust myself
What is a boy gonna do?
Build a church in the city
A place to crawl with our own
We'll give our God away
Taken by force
Twisted fate
Well, what weighs more
Down on your plate
A ton of love
A ton of hate
We’re waiting for
A chance of
Desire
Taken by force
Twisted fate
Well, what weighs more
Down on your plate
A ton of love
A ton of hate
We’re waiting for
A chance of, a chance of, a chance of
It caused a fire in New York
Where is my self-control?
You gotta learn to be thankful
For the things that you have
Now bathe my idle soul in
Desire
Twisted fate
Well, what weighs more
Down on your plate
A ton of love
A ton of hate
We’re waiting for
A chance of
Desire
I don’t trust myself
What is a boy gonna do?
Build a church in the city
A place to crawl with our own
We'll give our God away
Twisted fate
Well, what weighs more
Down on your plate
A ton of love
A ton of hate
We’re waiting for
A chance of
Desire
Twisted fate
Well, what weighs more
Down on your plate
A ton of love
A ton of hate
We’re waiting for
A chance of, a chance of, a chance of

Oh dear.
Well, look at these lyrics wowsers, get yer teeth into that!
We're waiting for a chance of desire. Love or hate, it masquarades as summat rather deep-seated in the human psyche.
If anyone can work out what 'taken by force' means that'd be good.
Other than that, I think it is generally a pop at how heated we get on this little island about issues and events, all this crap is nothing and we just want a chance of a chance of a chance of..... Whatever we desire.
This song to me describes the weakness in people. They are 'forced' to give into their desires. In my opinion Tom Smith writes with a wry sense of humor as he asks what's more important to you...good or bad...but the answer for most people is clearly, that whatever they desire will 'force' them to decide their actions. They will give up everything, even God, for it. I think 'taken by force' is part of his way of mocking these people. They just can't help themselves, the will of their desire is just too strong.
