The Glass Lyrics
Lead you so far down
I could tell you'd never been
Told me that time's near
And how it will change everything
I'm not so open like the window you are
The glass just reflects the scar
Told me that you had to leave
But how the fuck does that change anything?
Your glare is the faintest
No brightness to show
I made the best of what I thought was impossible
You were the spade I used to dig this hole
Blistered my skin to the bone
Swear all the pain's done
No trace or tremor here
Or am I still numb? Have I been this whole year?
So let me bite down, feel the clench in my teeth
Till I come around then relapse and repeat
Then relapse and repeat
Your glare is the faintest
No brightness to show
I made the best of what I thought was impossible
You were the spade I used to dig this hole
Blistered my skin to the bone
Now you're gone
Now you're gone
Now you're gone
Now you're gone
Now you're
I could tell you'd never been
Told me that time's near
And how it will change everything
I'm not so open like the window you are
The glass just reflects the scar
But how the fuck does that change anything?
No brightness to show
I made the best of what I thought was impossible
You were the spade I used to dig this hole
Blistered my skin to the bone
No trace or tremor here
Or am I still numb? Have I been this whole year?
So let me bite down, feel the clench in my teeth
Till I come around then relapse and repeat
Then relapse and repeat
No brightness to show
I made the best of what I thought was impossible
You were the spade I used to dig this hole
Blistered my skin to the bone
Now you're gone
Now you're gone
Now you're gone
Now you're

She was the spade he used to dig the hole he is now in. She's gone, the spades gone, so he's hit his bottom, now he can do the work to get out of that hole. To me this songs just a lament on a failed relationship that he put his everything into and tried to make work. The title of the song referring to how she let's everyone/ anyone in - shes so open that she's letting anyone who passes by in and see how the last relationship went to shit. He's not as open and his window (eyes maybe) let's people see the scars that were left by the failed relationship. I've lived these lyrics to a tee, and most of the acoustic album "songs of" speak directly to my experience as a young man searching for love that lasts but hasn't yet.
@Huelogy Allow someone (I) to tell you about what really happened. First of all, she didn't just openly let anyone in unless you seemed to be a good person. Kind, but not a stupid woman. The human eyes are THE WINDOWS to one's soul..but any average person doesn't typically know how to look into them and read it. There are some things that you really don't know and it's best kept that way. Unless you were really this guy then you can't understand why he really had to leave. It's more complicated than taking it at face value..this entire situation...

There are some things that you really don't know and it's best kept that way. Unless you were really this guy then you can't understand why he really had to leave. It's more complicated than taking it at face value..this entire situation was a horrible, painful nightmare that people shouldn't marvel at like some great tragedy or movie. Nobody should ever have to experience that shit, and it's kept as a reminder/lesson of a very dark place in time, probably to prevent history from repeating itself. But IMO, it causes an unnecessary amount of confused thoughts, hurt and negativity in people who try to understand something they were neither involved in or having to make the decisions leading to that outcome. I guarantee you there were details she didn't really explain either..Anyway, it all should be buried in the depths of obscure history books. Some knowledge and things that existed then are best left unknown to people these days, FOR GOOD REASON.
