The Home We Made Pt. II Lyrics

[Maigan Kennedy]
Don't stand again
Don't stand again
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves

[Crywolf]
I hear your footsteps in the hallway
Your presence won't leave this place
This house has worlds inside it's walls
In the back room, on the last night
I heard you crying for life
The smoke was pouring through the halls

[Maigan]
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves
[Crywolf]
This house has worlds inside it's walls
[Maigain
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves
[Crywolf]
The smoke was pouring through the halls
[Maigain]
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves
But they shot us down

[Maigan]
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves
Don't stand again

[Crywolf]
They're coming up slow
We're falling quickly
Your hand's in mine, but it's slipping day by day
Love, there is violence in this fall
I hear your whispers fading further
You touch my hand,
You see how all my broken pieces are painted on the wall

[Maigan]
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves
[Crywolf]
This house has worlds inside it's walls
[Maigain]
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves
[Crywolf]
The smoke was pouring through the halls
[Maigain]
And I thought maybe we could save ourselves
But they shot us down
[Crywolf]
They shot us down

First off, I'd like to say that this song is amazing! I dont think anything could have been changed to make it any better. Top notch all around! Ok. Of course, the lyrics are most likely a metaphor, but on the surface, the lyrics make me think that the home of these two people, a romantically involved couple, is being raided by S.W.A.T. or some other task force. "The smoke was pouring through the halls" could be tear gas or smoke used by the task force to disorient their targets, the couple in the house. "And I thought maybe we could save ourselves" is the woman's expression of her feeling of helplessness. They knew they were in trouble and they thought they were going to get out of it, but they didn't. "Don't stand again" is the woman begging the man to stop resisting the attackers/task force. They are only going to keep shooting him and there is no way he can come out with a victory. Crywolf's two parts of the song are like memoirs of the events right before and during the raid. "You see how all my broken pieces are painted on the wall" are broken peices of his body and blood splatter from gunshots.

Now, on to the true meaning of the song. This part is much more opinionated and likely arises from my recently failed marriage.

I believe that the man and woman have been together for a decent amount of time. At least a year, but possibly much longer. They decided to make a life together in a time where they were madly in love with one another, but as time went on, they grew apart. The distancing wasn't intentional on either party's part, but they were both growing as individuals and they no longer had the spark they once had. It seems to me that the woman came to terms with this much sooner than the man did. "And I thought maybe we could save ourselves" says that she had faith in their relationship and that they would get over whatever was breaking them apart. When the woman ended the relationship, by whatever means she chose, the man finally realized what he was losing. "Don't stand again" is her telling him that the relationship is over and he can stop trying to save something that is already lost. She isn't trying to hurt him, but she isn't trying to help him, either. I wonder what "But they shot us down" means. When she says it, it is like she is displacing blame on a third party for their failed relationship. When he says it, he is using her excuse as a rationalization for what has happened. He needed something to blame and she gave it to him, although it probably wasn't anyone's fault but their own. "Your presence won't leave this place" tells me that he is still living in their home while she has moved out. He can't stop thinking about her and will likely cycle through blaming himself and the ones who shot them down until he realizes that blame is not what is needed. Final note. This isn't in the song, but it is good info. In order to move on, he needs to see only the present and work toward a better future. The past is not a safe place to dwell. Neither is the future, really.

My Interpretation

This is a love story between a man and a woman, who became part of a large group of revolutionists.

Cry wolf is walking through the remains of a large burnt down building from his home sector. He has flashbacks, while his hands run against the walls covered in soot, his fingers leaving a trail of grey brick.

Maigen's spirit, walks at his side, comforting his agonized soul. She blanketed is spirits with a love that penetrated his heart. Crywolf could hear her story, as she screamed at him while he ducked under piles of wood. "Don't stand again!!" As she rushed into a platoon of soldiers of a burning building, and was shot.

His memories go back in time, and she begins telling her story. "And I thought maybe we could save ourselves."

Cry wolf begins to tell his perspective and intentions of the day his heart ripped open and exploded into the universe.

"I hear your footsteps in the hallway, your presence won't leave this place." Cry wolf stops and listens intently. Him and Maigan's spirit become acutely aware of each other. He breaths her in, and she leans her forehead into his. "This house has worlds inside it's walls."

His memory goes back to the trauma and tragedy. "In at the back room, on the last night, I heard you crying for life. The smoke was pouring through the halls." Cry wolf replays her running towards the platoon. She cries, as the smoke starts pouring rapidly through the hall she is running down.

Crywolf and Maigan beging to sing together, replying their perspectives, and her spirit comforts his body.

Maigain states a painful fact, to help Crywolf move on and accept her martyrdom. "But they shot us down."

Cry wolf begins telling the story. "They're coming up slow, we're falling quickly. Your hand's in mine, but it's slipping day by day. Love, there is violence in this fall.

Cry wolf forwards to the presence. He breaths in the spirit close to him and states: I hear your whispers fading further. You touch my hand.

And his perspective fast forwards to his own death, "You see how all my broken pieces are painted on the wall." It shows her spirit, whitnessing his murder, while he was shot down by a soldier that worked for the Celestials. His blood splattered on the walls, and his spirit shoots out of his body to meet hers.

Maigan and Crywolf sing together in their spirit bodies, embracing each other: Maigan] And I thought maybe we could save ourselves [Crywolf] This house has worlds inside it's walls [Maigain] And I thought maybe we could save ourselves [Crywolf] The smoke was pouring through the halls [Maigain] And I thought maybe we could save ourselves But they shot us down [Crywolf] They shot us down
