Slave Lyrics

It eats your soul, like tears you fall, my slave
You steal, you heed the call, my slave
The keys, the keys are gone, my slave
You keep me beating on

It eats your soul, like tears you fall, my slave
You steal, you heed the call, my slave
You keep me, you keep me, your slave
You keep me, you keep me, your slave

On my own
You keep me, you keep me
On the throne
Heads down all day
On my own
You keep me, you keep me
On the throne
Heads down all day

Come feed on your love

Maybe she's saying that when people are in love they in a way become slaves to each other, doing everything they can to keep each other happy maybe even sacrificing their own wants and needs. I think that in the song both lovers are aware of the sacrificing and all though they love each other it still sucks, "It eats your soul, like tears you fall".

My Interpretation

Think it's about being a slave to addiction.

"It eats your soul, like tears you fall, my slave"

"You steal, you heed the call, my slave" Stealing to feed the addiction.

"The keys, the keys are gone, my slave" Lost keys to apartment/house/car for addiction.

"You keep me, On the throne, Heads down all day" Makes me think more of a drug/alcohol addiction.

the entire song seems to be about slave/Master relationship dynamic found in facets of bdsm. the title alone is pretty much a giveaway... am i the only one who sees this..?

It is a slave/master relationship, but I don't think it's because of bdsm. Read my post and see if you agree with what I had to say.

Ill start by saying that I love the y3's but this song is different than most others. I disagree with the thoughts of everyone else, but I do understand how you come to that conclusion. I feel that this song is about someone who is undertaken by the devil...

"It eats your soul, like tears you fall, my slave You steal, you heed the call, my slave The keys, the keys are gone, my slave You keep me beating on"

That one stanza pretty much says it all. "it eats your soul, like tears you fall, my slave." That line says that your soul is being eaten, and you're falling into the devil's hands. You're falling into hell as one of his slaves; because it eats your soul, you lose your soul and fall as his slave.

"You steal, you heed the call, my slave" This line says that you're being called upon to change (by God), but since you're hesitant then you steal hope from yourself and resist the call and fall "my slave" (as the Devil's slave)

"The keys, the keys are gone, my slave" This says just what it says. The devil is telling you that the keys are gone, theres no way out, and now you've fallen as his slave.

"You keep me beating on" This means that by letting the devil consume your soul and claim you as his slave, he keeps you "beating on" (He allows you to have a popular life, famous life, rich life, partying life, etc.)

"You keep me, you keep me, your slave" Means exactly what it says, he keeps you as his slave and there is no turning back. (You've had the chance and you blew it). <----recalling to the line "You steal, you heed the call, my slave"

"On my own You keep me, you keep me On the throne Heads down all day"

This means that he'll be around you just as God would be. When you're on your own the Devil will provide what you want, just as if he were God to protect you from danger. "On the throne, heads down all day" means that the Devil is on the throne and you're looking down to him to reach an understanding. Almost as if you were talking to the Devil himself, the rich, wealthy, and backstabbing king. (The reason I call him a rich, wealthy, and backstabbing king is because no one is ever allowed on the throne unless if they are king of something..)

"Come feed on your love" means that you will go and do what you desire. As you go and do what you want and desire, the Devil will feast on your soul. In other words, I'm saying that by sinning (doing what humans usually want and desire) you're feeding the Devil your soul. By feeding the Devil your soul "The keys, the keys are gone, my slave..." She's speaking the words of the Devil (saying things that he would say after he has drawn you in), and giving you a warning that if you do follow that route, that's where you'll end up and that's how your soul and well-being will disappear. --------------> Of course everyone has their own opinion, but from listening to the song multiple times over a time span, from reading the lyrics alone, and then reading the lyrics as I listen to the song, this is the message that I got...I'm not sure if that's what she meant, and I'm not sure if any of you will agree with my opinion but that's exactly what I get from that song.
