Courage of the Knife Lyrics

Embrace each day with amazement inhale the sun
Two dying stars reborn as one
My god is a metaphor that transcends time
Much more than paper held in a spine

When you carry a cross you carry a stone
Set your mid free let your young heart roam
Walk down unknown roads before you build a home
Follow the stream until you reach the beach
It's all the same book just a different speech

I believe your god is dead
Wake up wake up
There is truth in your head
Your god is dead

My heart will see me through
I don't need a crutch nor excuse
We're all searching for something we're searching for love
Regardless of the form we want to bask in the sun
So bury the ax and give up the gun
Courage of the knife
But not of the blood

I believe your god is dead
Wake up wake up
There is truth in your head
Your god is dead

The dust of stars
Collect in our hearts

I think this song is about living without any type of god(s).

My heart will see me through I don't need a crutch nor excuse We're all searching for something we're searching for love

Those 3 lines, to me, say you don't need a higher being to live a good, moral, wholesome life.

Buddy is highly influenced by 20th century mythologist, Joseph Campbell. I remember Joseph Campbell making a reference in an interview about how he was trying to explain to a radio host that God is a metaphor, and the host got defensive like he thought Joe was discrediting "God" So Joe let him have it. Then Joe realized he was in the wrong for attacking the host. He made a comment after it was all said and done, that he had courage with the knife, but not with the blood. Like after you do something to someone to discredit them, you don't want to face it.

Interesting use of JoCamp's quotes throughout the Senses Fail discography.
