I Remember Lyrics

Oh whoa.
Oh whoa.

Oh whoa.
Oh whoa.

Oh whoa.
Oh whoa.

Oh whoa.
Oh whoa.

I remember they would say,
"It's all okay. I'll be alright."
Every night I could hear it.
I remember.

I could hear it in the wind:
that melody that they would play
every single day to remind us
it was over.

And it went,
"Oh whoa."
"Oh whoa."
And it went,
"Oh whoa."
"Oh whoa."

And it went,
"Oh whoa."
"Oh whoa."
And it went,
"Oh whoa."
"Oh whoa."

I remember they would say,
"It's all okay. I'll be alright."
Every night I could hear it.
I remember.

I could hear it in the wind:
that melody that they would play
every single day to remind us
it was over.

And it went,
"Oh whoa."
"Oh whoa."
And it went,
"Oh whoa."
"Oh whoa."

I remember.

The lyrics sound like propaganda that is being used to make citizens believe that everything is normal and in order.

My Interpretation

@Nyctob0t I am pretty sure (in the real lyrics) it does not say, "I remember they would say" it says "I remember you would say" but I may be wrong. If it is true, why does he remember? It does not make sense. He remembers that everything is in order and that people are trying to keep us in order?

@zane104148 Oh In that case it would mean that the character in the song was possibly doubting.

I belive the song is about nostalgia and the hardness of saying goodbye to people/places/routines/memories. Here is what I think of the lyrics' meaning:

"I remember they would say its all okay, you'll be alright, and every night i could hear it, I remember." This line talkes about the attepts to convince yourself, or to be convinced by others, that this goodbye will not be as bad as you think.

"I could hear it in the wind, that melody that they would play every single day, to remind us it was over" This line talks about the unspoken truth. The fact that a good time is now over and there is nothing you can do about it.

"And it went: ooowwoowooah" This is probably Tristam's way of explaining that feeling with a melody, which is very emotional and deep, but also a little cherring. The sadness of a goodbye with the sweetness of happy memories.

@ido1173793 This is amazing, I love your interpretation

@zane104148 Thank you very much! I actually had this song in mind for a very long time without knowing what it talks about, but then this interpretation hit me about 1 year ago when I went from middle school to high school, which meant the classes were rearranged and I had to say goodbye to my class members and my teacher that we had been with for 3 years before. The situation was exactly like my interpretation said. That's why it means a lot to me to know that someone else agrees with it and can maybe even relate to it. So...
