You've Got a Lot of Nerve Lyrics
Janie rides through the hurting side of town
She got up once then she got let down
Well I spit up and then they lie back down
She sits up and you come to her
With moistened lips
Your face is dry but your fingers drip
You've got a lot of nerve coming around here
Janie's mama does pirouettes inside
For a host of brokers who can't believe their eyes
She nails dirt under their fingers with her eyes
Then they charge out through the door
Into the night
Baptizing what they think is right
And washing down the dirt with all their might
You've got a lot of nerve coming around here
You've got a lot of nerve coming around here
There don't seem to be any way
There don't seem to be a way
That the flowers on the ground
Could get pushed out of the way
Janie buys her fuel at the corner store
She steps over the hose outside her door
She has lit a junk house fire into the sky
You want to ask but you really know why
And you think you can live while she dies
You've got a lot of nerve standing at my door
You've got a lot of nerve asking for more
You've got a lot of nerve coming around here
You've got a lot of nerve coming around here
She got up once then she got let down
Well I spit up and then they lie back down
She sits up and you come to her
With moistened lips
Your face is dry but your fingers drip
For a host of brokers who can't believe their eyes
She nails dirt under their fingers with her eyes
Then they charge out through the door
Into the night
Baptizing what they think is right
And washing down the dirt with all their might
You've got a lot of nerve coming around here
There don't seem to be a way
That the flowers on the ground
Could get pushed out of the way
She steps over the hose outside her door
She has lit a junk house fire into the sky
You want to ask but you really know why
And you think you can live while she dies
You've got a lot of nerve asking for more
You've got a lot of nerve coming around here
You've got a lot of nerve coming around here

"Well I spit up and then they lie back down"
This line appears to indicate that the song is from the perspective of Janie's child. The one who has "got a lot of nerve" is probably the father, possibly just a boyfriend. The song is written by Andrew Cash, whose brother Peter played guitar on this album and sang a few of the songs, including this one (along with Andy Maize). I have no idea if this song is autobiographical in any way.
"She sits up and you come to her With moistened lips Your face is dry but your fingers drip"
This part may indicate drug use on the part of the father/boyfriend. Amphetamines or cocaine, maybe?
