From the beginning
Small lifeforms
They can kill without warning
So you don't explode
Stump your growing limps and thinking
And you've lost them now you're blinking
And reminding her of him
Oh you steal his features
And your mother is a bleacher
She don't even feel the heat no
She don't even want to speak to you
But you, you always find another place to go
(Oh you) you always find another womb to grow
Well you can try to sink down deeply
And find the children lost at sea
Find the children who discretely
Be killed in infancy
To stop them holding you and screaming
That you'll lose your wildest dreaming
Still reminding me what I feel
How he left without reasons
But you, you always find another place to go
(Oh you) you always find another womb to grow
You can try to forget but I won't let you easy
You can try to forget but I won't let you easy
I'm flooding out and more I'm too washed out to see
Drifting away this time you'll regret you've conceived it
Clean up the dead you leave behind
Just like insects
Clean up the dead you leave behind
Small lifeforms
They can kill without warning
So you don't explode
And you've lost them now you're blinking
And reminding her of him
And your mother is a bleacher
She don't even feel the heat no
She don't even want to speak to you
(Oh you) you always find another womb to grow
And find the children lost at sea
Find the children who discretely
Be killed in infancy
That you'll lose your wildest dreaming
Still reminding me what I feel
How he left without reasons
(Oh you) you always find another womb to grow
You can try to forget but I won't let you easy
I'm flooding out and more I'm too washed out to see
Drifting away this time you'll regret you've conceived it
Clean up the dead you leave behind
Just like insects

Brilliant song but these lyrics have been transcribed with too many mistakes to make any sense.
To me this is a song to all aborted babies and about the emotional torment of the mother trying not to connect to an unwanted life form made by someone they no longer love.
Stop your growing limbs and thinking That you love them now you're blinking
Oh you'll steal his features (the father) And your mother is a bleacher (compulsive cleaner) She don't even feel the heat no (she feels no pain from the bleach) She don't even want to speak to you (to connect to the baby)
The verse on children lost at sea maybe a reference to self abortions being 'flushed' down the toilet discreetly.
'Oh you, you'll always find a another womb to grow' treats a lifeform as a reincarnation of life itself. Suggesting that no matter if you are aborted you will come to exist again.
I'm not really sure but it makes me think about this:
A woman left by her man, and now their child constantly reminds her of him, the way he left and all the suffering he caused to her. I cannot say if the child is actually born or if it's talking about abortion, but I think that the sense doesn't change in some way: the mother sees in this child the man who made her suffer and prevent her from forgetting.
In the official cd booklet there are only band pictures and on the cover these lyrics:
"You will always find another place to go You will always find another womb to grow to grow a new home"
The future tense and the last words kind of change possible meanings. Also because these are the only lyrics the band cared to publish in the booklet, they get extra meaning.
To me these lyrics are comforting words, something like: no matter how bad your childhood or youth was, you can later find other places and people to get what you need from ('another womb to grow a new home'). Even if your parents failed (or left) you can still become happy. And more in general "feel your suffering and grieving but let go of it in the end cause life goes on and nature's ways are hard, survival of the fittest" ('clean up the dead you leave behind').
I like her use of the sea, it makes me think she is describing the life of the child/children.
"and find the children lost at sea" This could suggest the back and forth traveling the child goes through, seeing different parents or carers, not knowing anything stable.
"That you'll lose your wildest dreaming" Could suggest the father wishes not to bring up the child as he still wants to live a life doing the things he dreams of.
"another womb to grow" I think this means he is going from person to person, until he decides to leave when things become too much, e.g. when a child becomes involved.
I also agree, she is unable to forget him because the child looks just like him.
"From the beginning Small lifeforms They can kill without warning So you don't explode"
From the beginning (first part of the baby's life) the baby is making the mother take care of it (killing her) where otherwise she would be exploding emotionally and probably be doing some very dramatic things.
"Stop your growing limps and thinking And you've loved them now you're blinking And reminding her of him"
This is talking out the baby, the baby has stopped for a moment and realized that it's mother is not looking at it properly (because she is reminded of the father) and so it blinks trying to make sure if it's seeing correctly because the baby has loved her and doesn't understand why she wouldn't love it back.
"Oh you steal his features And your mother is a bleacher She don't even feel the heat no She don't even want to speak to you"
The baby steals the father's features (biggest point). It's mother try's to make everything seem alright (like bleaching stains) where it isn't. The mother doesn't feel the warmth of when you love a child (so she doesn't love it). She wants to stay away from the child and not care for it.
"But you, you always find another place to go (Oh you) you always find another womb to grow to grow a new home"
This is suggesting that the baby is being put up for adoption and the baby will have a new life and real loving home.
"Well you can try to sink down deeply And find the children lost at sea Find the children who discretely Be killed in infancy
To stop them holding you and screaming That you'll lose your wildest dreaming Still reminding you of him How he left without reasons"
Now it's talking about the mother. This is not about her murdering the child, it's about her going very low and giving her up for adoption like all the other children who were put up for adoption and were "lost at sea". "Being killed in infancy" is what it feels like when you lose your parents, that were you died. She doesn't want to care for it so she can chase her dreams (the father). And the baby is still reminding her of him.
"You can try to forget but I won't let you easy You can try to forget but I won't let you easy I'm flooding out and more I'm too washed out to see Drifting away this time you'll regret you've conceived it Clean up the dead you leave behind Just like insects
Clean up the dead you leave behind"
Now with the baby gone and adopted the mother can't stop thinking about her child and the child keeps on going further and further away. Her conscious is making her feel guilt and she wishes the baby was never born so the guilt goes away.
This whole story probably takes place when the child is older and feels like her mother just killed her and left her like it was nothing (like she was an insect).
Great song, but I love every song Daughter anyways.
It's about abortion.
I think it's about a man who always leaves his family behind. I know somebody (an older man) who does it. He already had four marriage and made about 6-7 children but he always divorces and moves away leaving the children and his wife behind him.. altough he always finds another place to go, another woman and makes another children. This song is a masterpiece by the way.
Am I the only one who feels like this song is about a miscarriage?
Am i the only one who thinks this song is about war and humanity?
I feel like this song is 100% talking about abortion. From the beginning small life forms They can kill without warning so you don't explore (They will kill the baby before it is born so it doesn't discover the new world) Stop your growing limbs and thinking That you love them now your blinking ( stop the baby from developing in the womb. Stop the baby from loving the mom and dad even tho it is blinking. Like alive) And reminding her of him And how he left without reasons ( the baby is that of a man who had sex with the mother. Left. And now all this woman has is child in remembrance of this man )
Oh you steal his features ( the baby has the mans looks)
And your mother is a bleacher (The mom is the killer. Cleans away the baby.)
She don't even feel the heat no (She doesn't care. She has no remorse. No connection with the child)
She don't even want to speak to you (The mom wants nothing to do with the baby. At all.)
But you you'll always find another place to go Oh, you You'll always find another womb to grow (Even after the abortion of the child, the lifeform still becomes existent in another way. Referring to all the women who had abortions. Who may of felt this way)
Well you can try to sink down deeply Find the children lost at sea (The sea is huge. Find all the children who were killed by abortion in the sea. saying there are tons of children being killed by abortion.)
Find the children who discreetly Were Killed at infancy (Speaks for itself)
To stop them holding you and screaming That you'll loose your wildest dreaming
Still reminding you of him ( the child is still reminding the mother of the father who left.) And how he left without reasons
Well you can try to forget me but I won't let you easily ( personally this is deep as hell. I think. This is from the babies point of view. "Yes. You can kill me. But the thoughts of you doing this will haunt you. You can try to forget you had me. But I won't let that thought slip away." I think Elena was sympathizing with the child. And seeing the child's point of view.) but I think it could mean something else too
The mother may feel terrible for doing this. Speaking to the child, "I know you will hate me for this. But I am your mother and you can try to forget that. But I won't let you easily")
I'm floating in the water rushed out to sea ( I think this is from the mothers point of view. She did the abortion. And the regret keeps getting heavier and weighing her down more. "Rushed out to sea".)
Drifting away with time You regret you conceived it ( the mother is living day by day with abortion. Thinking about it. She regrets it, but had no one else to blame but herself. No matter how horrible she feels about it, she did it.)
Clean up The dead you leave behind Just like insects ( you know when your cleaning the house and sometimes dead bugs are on the window seal? And you just take a paper towel and wipe it up? I think she's referring to all the dead babies as bugs that whatever higher power there is, they clean them up like dead bugs)
