The Quotidian Beasts Lyrics
Well it woke me up early I went and I drew me a bath,
Yeah I knew she’d been coming and she had got here at last,
Well I started to scold her aw she just started to laugh,
Yeah the beast came upon me, I guess it wasn’t so bad.
I said “It’s you took your claws you slipped em under my skin,
There’s parts that got outside, honey I want to put em back in,
We’ve been playing like children, honey, now we’ll play it like men,
Those parts that got outside, I’m gonna put them back in.
She took the beak of a raven ah she laid it out just for show,
She spun it round on the table, honey. Hej, I thought you should know,
I saw the streets were of lightning all out the window below,
Yeah the beast was upon me, honey. I thought you should know.
Her ancient eyes were upon me. They were familiar and black,
She laid her claws all up on me. She had found me at last,
Ah it woke me up early. I went and I drew me a bath,
Ah, the beast was upon me, honey. I guess it wasn’t so bad.
Yeah I knew she’d been coming and she had got here at last,
Well I started to scold her aw she just started to laugh,
Yeah the beast came upon me, I guess it wasn’t so bad.
There’s parts that got outside, honey I want to put em back in,
We’ve been playing like children, honey, now we’ll play it like men,
Those parts that got outside, I’m gonna put them back in.
She spun it round on the table, honey. Hej, I thought you should know,
I saw the streets were of lightning all out the window below,
Yeah the beast was upon me, honey. I thought you should know.
She laid her claws all up on me. She had found me at last,
Ah it woke me up early. I went and I drew me a bath,
Ah, the beast was upon me, honey. I guess it wasn’t so bad.

I think the beast, the she he is referring to, is the fall of a relationship.
"Yeah I knew she’d been coming and she had got here at last" He knew the relationship wouldn't last
"Well I started to scold her aw she just started to laugh" The couple probably fights a lot, and it is an immediate defense mechanism. However, fighting isn't going to work anymore, the relationship is still doomed.
"Yeah the beast came upon me, I guess it wasn’t so bad" Maybe ending the relationship isn't so bad, and though it hurts he knows it is what is best.
"I said It’s you took your claws you slipped em under my skin" The two of them had fallen in love, making the breakup even more difficult. She became a part of him, the two of them had become one. When the relationship fell apart it hit him on the inside. That's why he sings "There’s parts that got outside, honey I want to put em back in", he has lost a part of himself by losing her. He wants her back.
"Her ancient eyes were upon me they were familiar and black" They were familiar, he has been through a tough breakup before. They were black, because going through it is cold and leaves you in a dark place.
Drug addiction. It can wake you up early, you can get high (or withdrawal) in a bath, you can scold your demons but they will only laugh, they'll tear out your good parts and you want them back. The raven beak is just pure death, evil, darkness but to her it's just a conversational matter-of-fact thing. "I've come to kill you."
But until the addict gets free, he can still tell himself all this horror "isn't so bad." The musical build goes from kind of romantic to just scary, like an addiction.
Seems like cheated on his girlfriend. He only party blames himself, maybe so he won’t feel so shitty about what he did. He puts most of the blame on “the beast”, which could be hormones, a drunken state, ego, the vixen’s seductive nature, etc. Everybody has the instinct to rationalize things in their head to make themselves feel better.
