Sleepwalking Lyrics

My secrets are burning a hole through my heart
And my bones catch a fever
When it cuts you up this deep
It's hard to find a way to breathe

Your eyes are swallowing me
Mirrors start to whisper
Shadows start to sing
My skin's smothering me
Help me find a way to breathe

Time stood still
The way it did before
It's like I'm sleepwalking
Fell into another hole again
It's like I'm sleepwalking

I'm at the edge of the world
Where do I go from here?
Do I disappear?
Edge of the world
Should I sink or swim?
Or simply disappear?

Your eyes are swallowing me
Mirrors start to whisper
Shadows start to sing
My skin's smothering me
Help me find a way to breathe
Sing it!

Time stood still
The way it did before
It's like I'm sleepwalking
Fell into another hole again
It's like I'm sleepwalking

Wake up
Take my hand and
Give me a reason to start again
Wake up
Pull me out and
Give me a reason to start again

Time stands still (time stands still)
Time stands still (time stands still)

Your eyes are swallowing me
Mirrors start to whisper
Shadows start to sing
My skin's smothering me
Help me find a way to breathe

Time stood still
The way it did before
It's like I'm sleepwalking
Fell into another hole again
It's like I'm sleepwalking

(It's like I'm sleepwalking)
(It's like I'm sleepwalking)
(It's like I'm sleepwalking)

Time stood still
The way it did before
It's like I'm sleepwalking

Could be very wrong about this, but music is different to everyone. I believe this song is to be about derealization/schizophrenia. Lyrics: My secrets are burning a hole through my heart And my bones catch a fever When it cuts you up this deep It's hard to find a way to breathe

(This part to me means that the person is having an extremely hard time with life, whether it be regarding depression or something else. They're having to hide this hardship and it's destroying their entire being, so they're self medicating in a way- hence 'when it cuts you up this deep, its hard to find a way to breathe')

Your eyes are swallowing me Mirrors start to whisper Shadows start to see My skin's smothering me Help me find a way to breathe

(They do drugs or whatever else it is to numb their pain, which makes them go crazy. 'Your eyes are swallowing me'- people with derealization cannot look at people in the face or eyes too long before their faces become morphed. 'Mirrors start to whisper, shadows start to sing'- they're going crazy, hearing and seeing things. 'My skins smothering me'- They feel they cannot escape from themselves.)

Time stood still The way it did before It's like I'm sleepwalking Fell into another hole again It's like I'm sleepwalking (The first two lines are saying that when you have a bad trip on drugs, time can seem like it is not moving or going any faster, your time and space perception is completely off. When you have derealization this continues to happen- hence- 'the way it did before'. 'It's like I'm sleepwalking'- they don't feel real. They feel they are living in a dream. 'Fell into another hole again, it's like I'm sleepwalking'- Kind of an Alice In Wonderland-ish reference here to me. You fall down the rabbit hole and your whole world is confusing and new and unfamiliar- and frightening. Just like derealization.)

I'm at the edge of the world Where do I go from here? Do I disappear? Edge of the world Should I sink or swim? Or simply disappear? (The person's disorder has left them stuck. They don't know what to do from here. The continuous references to disappearing means that they do not feel real anyway, so should they continue on, or simply disappear?)

Skipping the parts I already interpreted

Wake up! Take my hand and Give me a reason to start again Wake up! Pull me out and Give me a reason to start again (I feel like this is a battle between the person and their mind. Half of their mind is telling them to wake up from this shit hole they're in, but the other half is asking them to give them a reason to even try, and begging for help to pull themselves out of this situation they're in.)

So yeah, this is just my interpretation of it, being a person who has dealt with these things. There are a wide variety of things this song could be about- just thought my answer was kind of interesting.

My Interpretation

It's funny that you said this. I know a girl who I suspect has BPD. She has a personal playlist of songs she calls soundtrack to life. This is on there, along with other ones like Four Walled World, Man in the box, Sweating Bullets etc. All songs which identify well with mental illness.

I think this is the most accurate interpretation. The only part that I interpreted differently than you described was the "Fell into another hole again, it's like I'm sleepwalking" lyric because of how it may relate with the follow up lyrics "wake up... (and so forth). I felt it was more of a take on how you know its wrong when you relapse. But, you either can't fight the craving or act on habit. I think it could be relating to how you're physically acting. While mentally its like you're watching it happen from outside yourself, as if you were...

@justjava2 I'm going through this now...it's my third time having to deal with my anxiety forming in episodes of derealization and this song explains it really well. It's like a feeling you can't shake, you're just in a trance, feeling like you're on the edge of reality.

The lyrics to this song are very meaninful to me. I interpret a continued drug addiction. Its a constant battle, where "falling into another hole again" means relapsing.

Being an addict for four years victimized to heroin\opiates, you go through a viscous, depressing, downward spiral where you are constantly letting down those around u i.e. family. I can relate to "eyes swallowing me" due to guilt, "skin smothering me" due to withdrawal.

It sucks bad. Im not positivr it means this, just inferring. But addiction is repetitive, and constantly reliving your mistakes makes you feel hopeless to where you feel yr at the edge of the world nd leaving u wishing u'd dissapear.

There isnt a drug aside from heroine/opiates that leave u feeling more like shit, long term. It leaves you depressed because you'll never feel as good as you did while u were high, not to mention it drains the chemical i think its dopamine from ur brain, so you easily become restless and discontent. I am trying to recover as an addict, but its not working. Which is why im venting this BULLSHIT ON THE INTERNET. Thats my opinion.

My Interpretation

I believe this song is about being stuck within the cycle of depression. At first he's so emotionally troubled, his body starts physically reacting to his stress (i.e. 'bones catch a fever).

The second verse is about what made him initially upset. He's remembering how things went wrong, and he's feeling guilty over the outcome. He also hates himself.

The third verse deals with emotionally numbness. Your psyche acts as if it's shutting down. It really does feel as if you're, 'sleepwalking' because being emotionally numb is like being stuck in a bad dream you can't awaken from, yet you're mentally conscious of everything around you.

Fourth verse is the contemplation of suicide.

Fifth verse-he's analyzing his feelings and remembering why he started feeling bad in the first place.

Sixth verse-Still emotionally numb. He's also just, 'existing' by this point because he's already died on the inside.

Then the rest of the song deals with him wanting to find a reason to feel better. He's tired of feeling the way he does, but he can't snap out of his emotional turmoil. He wants, and needs help, but either doesn't know how to obtain or he simply can't seem to feel better because he's still stuck in the past over how things went wrong in his life.

I've always thoughts those lyrics were about suicide. But after reading thoughts of the one who think about drug addiction, i think it fit better. Even if i've never felt a drug addiction pain. Maybe we should take a closer look at the life of the guys who wrote those lyrics. Although, drug addiction and suicide are two topics usually linked, (one provide the other, in both sides).

I love this song so much! Bit off topic, but has anyone heard of the band FROM INSIDE?? Well I read on Twitter that Oli Sykes and Jordan Fish have written all the music for them cos they are good friends in the UK. Check out their music video for their single BE YOURSELF - FROM INSIDE by searching on Youtube, it sounds very BMTH but still its ridiculous good obviously. Mad that they are doing this too for friends bands now, really love them :D

My Opinion

I always thought it was suicide. It doesn't only relate to addiction. It relates to depression, and the surreal feeling that you get when you first wake up and can't beleive you're still alive. Time stands still the moment that you attempt, and falling into another hole, you fall back into the depression. :l I don't know. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is how I relate. I have issues.
