Empire (Let Them Sing) Lyrics
It's the start of the end
Surrender the throne
The blood on my hands covered the holes
We've been surrounded, by vicious cycles
And we're truly alone
The scars on your heart are yours to atone
We've been surrounded
Let 'em sing, let 'em sing!
The deeper you dig, the darker it gets
There's nowhere else for us to go
We live what we learn, and then we forget
We'll never find our way back home, come on!
They came like moths, to a flame
You left like a house in a hurricane
(The wolves are at my door)
It's the start of the end
Surrender the throne
The blood on my hands covered the holes
We've been surrounded, by vicious cycles
It's the end and we're truly alone
The scars on your heart are yours to atone
We've been surrounded
Let 'em sing, let 'em sing!
I hear them clawing at the gates
"Let us in, let us in"
I hear them calling out my name
(I don't care)
Let them sing, let them sing, let them sing
Let the bastards sing
Let them sing, let them sing
Let the bastards sing
Let them sing, let them sing
Let the bastards sing
Let the God forsaken bastards sing
They came like moths, to our flame
You left like a house in a hurricane
The wolves are at my door
But I can't see the writing on the walls
The wolves are at my door
Waiting for my empire to fall
It's the start of the end
Surrender the throne
The blood on my hands covered the holes
We've been surrounded, by vicious cycles
So call it the end, and we're truly alone
The scars on your heart are yours to atone
We've been surrounded
Let 'em sing, let 'em sing!
Surrender the throne
The blood on my hands covered the holes
And we're truly alone
The scars on your heart are yours to atone

i was at the concert tonight and oli said that this song is about relapse. he didnt say anything about what it is a relapse to, but i guess it applies to anything.
"its the start of the end, surrender the throne"
"We've been surrounded, by vicious cycles. And we're truly alone" -Its a cycle, always coming back to relapsing. Also you may feel like you have nobody to turn to for help or comfort, alone.
I dont know, the rest you can figure out yourself im tired, been thrown around mosh pits all night haaa
"It's all metaphorical. When you listen to it, it sounds like a man who thinks he's the ruler of an empire and could never be defeated, but he's on the brink of being defeated. It gives the feeling of people barricaded behind castle walls. It's about relapse and getting defeated again but not seeing the writing on the wall. " Oliver Sykes :) hope that helped
i dont know, i feel hes fighting his faith in god - saying evil is knocking on his door tempting him etc etc
The wolves are at my door But I can't see the writing on the walls
I've been wondering for a long time what this would mean, i understand the whole song, i see what he means with the wolves at his door, but what do the writings on the wall have to do with it? it says 'BUT' so i wonder what he means with it
his actions are catching up with him, yet he still cant change his ways

@Femhero The writing on the wall is an expression. Basically it means that "the wolves are at my door" something is impending and has nearly got him "But I can't see the writing on the wall" but he can't see the obvious signs.

BMTH never complements christianity in his songs. This would mean that he would instead be bringing across a fault in their system. "The wolves are at my door"- would suggest that they are threatening to him (wolves) this is a strange term since christians are often reffered to as the lambs however it is also effective in explaining how they were forceful, brutal and never stopped in the past. "Let them sing" would suggest charols or perhaps preaching, he is saying that he'll let them carry on but he will never let his 'empire fall' ("the wolves are at my door, waiting for my empire to fall) meaning he won't listen, he doesn't care what they say("I don't care"). "We've been surrounded by vicious cycles"- would reffer to the brutality in the past and the somewhat threatening pose they have today including their so-called 'mishaps' in safety, sexual crimes and the such. And lastly "so call it the end and we're truly alone"- reffers to the constant fear of the end when it never happens and the second part of the quote would most probably be his own thoughts on the matter being that he believes there is no god.
This song is definitely about Christianity. It's about how God turns his face to people who don't accept him.
I hear them clawing at the gates "Let us in, let us in" I hear them calling out my name (I don't care)
I think it's pretty obvious this is the gates of heaven. The people who want in are people who died not believing in him. And the whole part about "let them sing" is stressing that God just doesn't care what they say.
"The blood on my hands covered the holes" Another remark about Christianity. Oli is saying he's a "sinner"
I think the whole purpose of this song is to point out how stubborn Christianity is and question the believability of an elitist religion (ex. "we're all sinners, but only people who believe in God can get into heaven).
This doesn't really make so much sense, but I've always thought that the person in the song starts hearing voices. For example:
"We've been surrounded, by vicious cycles"
"I hear them clawing at the gates "Let us in, let us in" I hear them calling out my name (I don't care)"
and also the phrase
"Let them sing".
The theory about God makes much more sense, but when I heard this song for the first time, that was what I heard.
Jesus Dying for your Sin's is Bullshit, "the Blood On my hands covered the hole" Crucified and rip himself off the cross, the Wolves the roman empire the Vatican religion are the world telling you how the fuck to get to heaven. We rather not go to your heaven. We like Black Tims and Black hoodies.
as said in the first comment, the song is about relapse. For those of you who don't know, Oli sykes was struggling with a ketamine addiction prior to writing the album "Sempiternal" so it really is a fitting topic to draw inspiration from in his case.
I think it is generally talking about judgement day and people who are damned to hell. "The deeper you dig, the darker it gets. There's nowhere else for us to go". These lyrics are referring to hell.
