Generational Synthetic Lyrics

Hustle in the viable years
Who you love and who you fear

All your work and inspiration
Systematic expiration

We're so brave, we're so real
We're so desperate, make a deal

Oh your words are so poetic
Generational synthetic

And I will do it on my own again
And I will say what I will

All my friends are far away
Leaves my head in disarray

I can't help but to forget
What is now and what is next

Trade a fortune for a song
What we wanted all along

Oh your words are so magnetic
Generation apathetic

And I will do it on my own again
And I will say what I will

this song encapsulates the feeling of the social media generation. Everyone now a days has a much greater audience with twitter, tumblr, instagram, etc. With the feeling that all your piers from school, work, etc. some of which you don't really know, and you want to give the impression that you're cool, smart, poetic, attractive, etc. With that feel like a lot of my piers aren't being very authentic on social media and are trying to act "cool" in front of everyone else. Then sometimes you'll get to meet some of these hip twitter kids and they turn out just like everyone else, socially awkward, full of quirks that seem to not be represented on social media, etc.

Looking at the lyrics, it seems that Dustin Payseur is talking more about people selling themselves out in the music industry, and saying things or being people they aren't for the sake of getting big. Either way, the song translates to the idea of people being fake to give people the impression they're someone more interesting than who they actually are and it's very easy to do that in music and on the internet
