State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U) Lyrics
Daylight come. Daylight go
How far will it reach?
Ain't nobody know
And when the dawn breaks
The cradle will fall
And down come baby
Cradle and all.
Now I know you need the dark
Just as much as the sun
But you signin' on forever
When you ink it in blood
(A.E.I.O.U.)
I use my state of the art technology-
Supposed to make for better livin'
Are we better human beings?
We've got out wires all crossed.
Our tubes are all tied
And I'm straining to remember
Just what it means to be alive
A life worth living
Now you can feel it in your chest
Buildin' like little birds
Just building up the nest
And you build it up strong
And you fill it up with love
And you pray for good rain
All from the lord above
(A.E.I.O.U.A.E.I.O.U.A.E.I.O.U.)
I use my state of the art technology
Now don't you forget i: it ain't usin' me.
Cuz when the power's goes out -
I got all I need
Cuz the power's goin' out.
(I really mean it the powers goin' out)
How far will it reach?
Ain't nobody know
And when the dawn breaks
The cradle will fall
And down come baby
Cradle and all.

I think it is about night vision goggles in wartime. Very powerful. Featured in Blacklist when the new recruit finds out about her husband first episode. Agree with first comment - technology changes everything. "Other means" is key phrase. Power out. All you hear from people you bump into is vowels.
Technology is changing our world so quickly, an ever increasing 'gap' forms between between people generationally and technicallogically. Struggling to live a life worth meaning...are we as humans advancing spiritually? (We've got our wires all crossed) AEIOU - something else is missing from life (like BCDFGHJKLMNPQRSTVWXZ?)
That last part about the power going out = death? or change? What would we all do if the power went out and our mobile devices were useless? Where would the economy be, could we all raise chickens and brew our own beer? Would we all be lost and have to re-evaluate our lives when the power goes out?
Why is it sung in the past tense "I used the state of the art technology" like he no longer uses it or like it used to use him and the singer has overcome that state where it was using him?
@abraxas365 I like your comment, but I believe it’s present tense, “I use my state of the art technology” in those lines, not past tense “used.” But I could be wrong.

@abraxas365 either way, I like the idea that he’s not letting his mixing board control him. It’s motivational for me.
