Colombia Lyrics
The day after I had counted down all of your breaths
Down until
There were none, were none, were none, were none
A hummingbird crashed right in front of me and I understood
All I did for us.
You gave, and gave, and gave, and gave.
Ohh,
Every night I ask myself
Am I giving enough?
Am I giving enough?
Am I giving enough?
Am I?
If you never knew how much,
If you never felt all of of my love.
I pray now
You do, you do, you do, you do.
Ohh,
Every night I ask myself
Am I loving enough?
Am I loving enough?
Am I loving enough?
Am I?
Patricia,
Every night I'll ask myself
Am I giving enough?
Am I giving enough?
Am I giving enough?
Am I?
Patricia,
Every night I'll ask myself
Am I loving enough?
Am I loving enough?
Am I loving enough?
Am I?

Amazing song.
The significance of the Hummingbird is grand, grand enough to title the album... a hummingbird symbolizes resurrection in some cultures. This is because each one becomes lifeless and seems to die on cold nights, but it comes back to life again when the warmth emerges from the sun.
Kelcey's mother was obviously such a force in his life to make him rethink the way he interacts with people before there isn't any other chance.
This feeling reverberates through everyone when they lose a significant person from their life. Great job Local Natives.
it's already been said but this is such a beautiful ode to his late mother, patricia. he is praying to her during the chorus, asking as she's watching over him if he is giving enough, loving enough, since he maybe didn't show it enough to her when she was alive and doesn't want to repeat the same mistake.
This song was written about Kelcey Ayer's mother, who passed away recently. With that in mind, this song is so freaking sad...and beautiful nonetheless.
Slight correction, I believe
"If you never knew how much, If you never felt called by God. I pray now you do, you do, you do, you do."
should be
"If you never knew how much, If you never felt all of my love I pray now you do, you do, you do, you do."
That's not what he's saying. He is saying "If you never knew how much, if you never felt all of my love". I think he means now that she is gone, he prays that she can now see and fell how much he loves her. I've seen the band perform this song live twice and the words are easier to hear when you're in a small venue, right in front of the band.

The first line ends with "breaths" not friends.
